One holiday down and one to go, and then we start the business of regular living all over again! Our thoughts go out to Senor and the rest of the extended Rust family. I only met Mr.

Gentle readers: The column this week is mostly about the combined Evett/Gallant families. Our dear Mr. Phil Evett hosted 22 members of the McNay Art Museum from San Antonio at his gallery on November 20. Before touring the gallery, they all enjoyed a lovely meal at Uptown Blanco Restaurant. Mr. Evett’s mother-in-law, Phyllis Gallant, had surgery on her knee, so is rehabilitating at Deer Creek in Wimberley.

Gentle readers, I was lucky enough to bump into Ronnie Cooley at the BUMC bazaar and snag three loaves of Ms. Ada's light bread before they even got to the baked goods room. She hasn't lost her touch! And I was also lucky enough, even having spilled my chili on my truck seat, to beat everybody to Florine Lord's wine cakes and Leona Smylie's pecan pie.

Dear gentle readers, There have been no sightings of Ada Cooley in quite a while - I am going to have to go see her, just to check on her! The BUMC Bazaar is this weekend (in fact, there are lots of things going on this weeken ...

Gentle Readers: Our thoughts go out to Dobie Benson and his family in the loss of his mother, Kathy; she was the epitome of the word "gentlewoman" and a trouper to the end. And to Joyce and Cliff Knoll in the loss of Joyce's mother, Sybil, who was also a fine lady.

My reading audience, I made a major faux pas when I misspelled TD and Leona Smylie’s last name - I thought I knew theirs as well as I know my own - guess not! It is not, and never has been, spelled Smiley. They were very forgiving about my error, but I want to say, once again, I am sorry!

Gentle Readers: These past couple weeks have brought some sad news but also glad news. Our thoughts go out to the family of Kay Hocutt, who worked at Super S. She passed away last Thursday. Howard Cox's brother, Curtis, also passed away. I am really sorry I never got to meet him - he was a fount of historical knowledge about WWII and lots of other things, according to his brother.

I actually got to hug Ada Cooley at Cuts 'n Curls - her normal Saturday shop was booked solid, so I was lucky enough to grab her before she sat down in a chair to get her loveliness refreshed! In less exciting, but still interesting news - Tony Floerke, the great white hunter/fisherman, with his lovely wife, Candi, on board, caught a 25"

Dear Loyal Readers: Frank Leblanc, out in his pretty new fishing boat with his lovely wife, Dana, caught a FISH! A real live fish - it was a catch-and-release sort of thing, although it (the fish, not the boat) was fourteen inches long. At least that’s what Frank said, but we ladies know men and their “fish stories.” I mean to ask Dana if it was really a bluegill :) School is fast approaching, so get into your “watch for kids” dri ...

Dear Readers: Has anybody missed the excitement going on around the courthouse? By the time the paper comes out, it will all be over, if things go according to schedule, but some of us, had anybody noticed, acted like star-struck teenagers! I was holding out for Robert Duvall, but he never materialized.

Another sad beginning to this column - our hearts and thoughts go out to Wes and Stephanie Cudd in the loss of their baby son, Wesley Reid Cudd. As in last week's column about Trey, rumors run wild in a small town, as Blanco is, which makes it hard for the family and all involved to grieve their loss.

Gentle readers, This has been a sad/joyful week or two... we had a glorious Easter, but we also lost a wonderful gentleman by the name of Glen Barnard on Wednesday. Glen could play the saw like anything! and my favorite memory of him will always be at the Relay for Life talent show a few years ago, when he and his wife Ruby played Adam and Eve to Darlene Kiernan’s Dr.

Happy birthday, Tommy Vallone! This particular note should have been in the Potpourri a couple weeks ago, but I failed to check out the information properly - here it is now. Andrew (Drew) Daughdril, grandson of Bob Daughdril, well-known volunteer at the Blanco Library, inveterate poker player, and raconteur, came home to Sulphur, LA, before heading to Kuwait and then Iraq, having just finished training with the Louisiana National Guard.

Prepare to be downhearted with me - Lyle’s parents (my wonderful in-laws) are heading back to Kansas for the summer. They are always a joy to have here - I wasn’t able to spend as much time with them as I would have liked, since I had lots and lots of typing to do, but hopefully when they come back in late fall I will have been able to organize my schedule a little better. Spring has sprung - get out and enjoy the first signs - the hummingbirds, the flowers, the wea ...

On Wednesday, February 24, the Lutheran Church hosted the monthly birthday party at Live Oak Nursing Home. A big thank-you to Darlene Kiernan, who played piano, and Dorothy Dillon for coming to sing! We appreciate all who came to help out. Everyone enjoyed some Dorothy Troppy cake, ice cream, and punch while Happy Birthday was sung, and they opened their birthday gifts from Blanco National Bank.
