This year’s Spangle Dangle Celebration was held at the Blanco County Fairgrounds over the 4th of July weekend. Festivities began Friday afternoon with the hope of what would soon prove to be, ‘The Best One Yet!’ Mr. Spangle Dangle himself, Dale Hardy of Johnson City, was more than pleased with the day’s festivities and growing support.

This year’s winners of the Spangle Dangle Celebration and Washer Tournament held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 with eighteen very competitive teams from all around the Central Texas Hill Country. One team remained undefeated from the very first washer tossed to the very last. A brilliant pairing of two outstanding players - David Perez of Lampasas, and George Comacho of Granite Shoals, never played as partners until this tournament.

Though a blustery storm on Thursday night threatened to sweep away those set up for Friday’s opening of the 10th Annual Lavender Festival, everything was set to rights by Noon on June 12. This year marks the first year for overflow parking at Yett Park, which was packed with visitor’s vehicles, and a free shuttle to the Festival.

Lavender Festival begins this Friday, June 13 at Noon. On behalf of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and Lavender Festival Steering Committee, our most heartfelt thanks to the many local businesses sponsors for this year’s event. The success of the festival is due, in large part, to the support we receive from our businesses and the support from our community volunteers and city officials.

Panther Stadium was filled with family and friends on Friday, June 6, as the Class of 2014 received their Diplomas. Student Speakers were; Kristin Watt, Alexandria Penshorn, Rance Dollahite, and Joshua McCaslin. Callie Jane Nance gave the Valedictory address and Cove Chick gave the Salutatory Address. Gina Blankenburg gave the Commencement address.

Early on Saturday morning of April 12, over 100 volunteers began preparing for the 15th annual "Don't Mess with Texas and Keep Blanco Beautiful Trash Off" and 8th annual "River Cleanup". By 9:30 am you could see young and old in bright neon yellow KBB shirts all around the city of Blanco and on the river in kyaks and canoes with black bags picking up trash.

For a second year in a row the Wild Women Weekend in Blanco has been a great success both in fun and profits, and this year the attendance was almost doubled. On Friday, April 4th, there were new events of glass fusion at Barn Vetro of Blanco, Onion Creek Kitchens of Blanco hosted a Hill Country Tour with assistance from Majesty Tours of Fredericksburg, and Wedding Oak Winery of San Saba hosted an evening wine event.

Blanco High School played host to the District 27-AA UIL meet last week, and it featured a classic battle of academic titans that refused to fall.
