For a second year in a row the Wild Women Weekend in Blanco has been a great success both in fun and profits, and this year the attendance was almost doubled. On Friday, April 4th, there were new events of glass fusion at Barn Vetro of Blanco, Onion Creek Kitchens of Blanco hosted a Hill Country Tour with assistance from Majesty Tours of Fredericksburg, and Wedding Oak Winery of San Saba hosted an evening wine event.

Blanco High School played host to the District 27-AA UIL meet last week, and it featured a classic battle of academic titans that refused to fall. Crews arrived in Blanco to film scenes for the NBC show Revolution, on March 19 and April 1. They set up in the Old Blanco County Courthouse and transformed the Courtroom to better suit the post-apocalyptic theme of the show. Several of the shows stars were spotted on April 1, along with many extras.

The Panther softball team defeated the Comfort Deer, 15-5, in 6 innings on Tuesday, March 25. Jamie McClinton led the Panthers with 4 hits, including 3 singles and a double. McClinton scored 3 runs and knocked in 3 rbi. Meaghen Seales had 3 singles and scored 2 runs and 2 rbi.

The BHS Class of 2014 would like to express thanks to everyone who made this year’s Project Graduation Golf Tournament an overwhelming success. We had 89 golfers participate and over 60 sponsors of prizes, food, donations, and other support. The Panthers baseball team began district play on Tuesday, March 18 with a decisive, 16-3, win over the Ingram Warriors. Jake Breeding pitched for Blanco picking up his 3rd win of the season going 4 innings and scattering 5 hits. The Panthers hammered 14 hits in 5 innings. Kyle Gray, Kyle Sauceda, Chase Glowka, Josh McCaslin, and Mckay Adamson all had 2 hits.

The annual Membership meeting of the Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservations Society was held Thursday, March 20. Board Chairman George Clary gave a list of highlights for 2013. The Courthouse was rented for filming of NBC show Revolution on March 19. Clary reported a revenue of $3300 from the rental and that the crew was professional and clean.

Blanco baseball hosted their tournament on March 6-8 with the Panthers making it to the finals against the San Antonio Home School Wolverines. However, the final was rained out as a cold front roared through the Hill Country. In route to the finals, the Panthers first victim were the Ingram Warriors.

The annual Blanco Baseball and Softball Camp was held Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11. Young Panthers got a chance to learn from High School Coach Bryan Wyatt and practice with with BHS team members. Some skills they worked on were throwing, catching, sliding, and batting. The Panther Varsity Baseball Team started their 2014 season with a 7-1 win over St. Anthonys on Tuesday, February 18. Jake Breeding picked up win number 1 on the mound by going 4 innings. Chase Glowka and McKay Adamson each had 2 hits and 2rbi. On Monday, February 24 Blanco defeated Harper 9-1.

The Blanco Varsity softball team has played 12 games in the past 2 weeks, including 6 in the Kerrville Tivy Tournament and 4 in the Blanco Tournament. Eleven of those opponents have been 3A, 4A, and 5A schools. The Panthers now hold a 7-5 season record. Blanco started the season with a 14-10 win over Canyon Lake on Tuesday, February 18.

The Panthers boys basketball team started the playoffs with a strong Bi-District win, 67-47, over the Karnes City Badgers at Littleton Gym in San Antonio on Tuesday, February 18. Facing Hitchcock in the Area round on Friday, February 21 at Columbus, the Panthers led 34-30 at the half, but lost the battle in the 4th quarter with a final score 53-62.
