The 3rd Annual Blanco Western Showcase took place on the grounds of Buggy Barn Museum November 7-9, and it went off with a bang! We had people from all over the area come join us for a fun-filled weekend with more entertainment than you could imagine. For the great admission price, you could experience every single one of the entertainers; tour the museum, look at the vendors, take carriage rides, look at the future of the old west town and more. The lineup of entertainment was extraordinary!

The Blanco FFA Land, Range, Homesite and Plant ID teams recently competed in the Area VII FFA Fall Career Development Events at the Joshua Springs Park and Preserve in Kendall County. More than 350 contestants from across the area competed for the privilege of advancing to their respective state contests this coming spring.

The Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society (the “Society”) held its annual fundraising Gala on Saturday, October 18, 2014 on the Courthouse grounds. The Gala was a huge success, with many attendees stating that it was “first class” and “great.” The Gala was well-attended and included such dignitaries as State Senator Troy Fraser and his wife, State Representative Jason Isaac and his wife, and Blanco County Judge-elect, Brett Bray and his wife. This past Wednesday, the Blanco FFA Chapter, along with the Hill District FFA Association, hosted the Annual Blanco FFA and Hill District Invitational Fall Career Development Events. This marks the 23rd consecutive year that the Blanco FFA has hosted this event, which has become the state’s largest career development event of the fall.

Practices for fall sports and band began this week. Scrimmages for Volleyball begin August 8, see page 9 for details. The first Football Scrimmage against St. Anthony will be August 16 in San Antonio.

This year’s Spangle Dangle Celebration was held at the Blanco County Fairgrounds over the 4th of July weekend. Festivities began Friday afternoon with the hope of what would soon prove to be, ‘The Best One Yet!’ Mr. Spangle Dangle himself, Dale Hardy of Johnson City, was more than pleased with the day’s festivities and growing support.

This year’s winners of the Spangle Dangle Celebration and Washer Tournament held on Saturday, July 5, 2014 with eighteen very competitive teams from all around the Central Texas Hill Country. One team remained undefeated from the very first washer tossed to the very last. A brilliant pairing of two outstanding players - David Perez of Lampasas, and George Comacho of Granite Shoals, never played as partners until this tournament.

Though a blustery storm on Thursday night threatened to sweep away those set up for Friday’s opening of the 10th Annual Lavender Festival, everything was set to rights by Noon on June 12. This year marks the first year for overflow parking at Yett Park, which was packed with visitor’s vehicles, and a free shuttle to the Festival.

Lavender Festival begins this Friday, June 13 at Noon. On behalf of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce and Lavender Festival Steering Committee, our most heartfelt thanks to the many local businesses sponsors for this year’s event. Panther Stadium was filled with family and friends on Friday, June 6, as the Class of 2014 received their Diplomas. Student Speakers were; Kristin Watt, Alexandria Penshorn, Rance Dollahite, and Joshua McCaslin. Callie Jane Nance gave the Valedictory address and Cove Chick gave the Salutatory Address. Gina Blankenburg gave the Commencement address.
