September 25, 2007- After the meeting was called to order by Judge Bill Guthrie at 9:00AM, Karen Newman, County Clerk, read the minutes of the prior regularly scheduled meeting with approval of the minutes as read given by the Court. One bid, from Tower Tech, Inc., to repair a damaged radio communications tower was opened and read by Judge Guthrie.

As Blanco residents know, a lot goes on in this small town. Go out of town for a week or two, and you have a lot of catching up to do when you get home. So if you haven’t been by the Blanco Library for a few weeks, drop in and see the new director of library services—Trisha Campbell.

On Saturday, October 6, the Blanco Panther Band traveled to Judson High School in Converse to compete in the Judson Rocket Review, a marching band festival for A through AAAAA high schools. Blanco was the first band to compete in the festival. The Panther Band performed their 2007 competition show "Supernatural - the music of Carlos Santana".

Dr. David and Maryella Vause celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Washington State and Victoria, Canada; hosted by their children and grandchildren, in June. Then on the Golden Anniversary date, August 31st, they slipped away to the Tower of the Americas for a romantic dinner for two.

AUSTIN - The Texas Youth Commission removed 197 male inmates confined at the Coke County Juvenile Justice Center in Bronte and transferred them to other facilities on Oct. 2. Jay McGinnis is the owner and manager of Allied Body & Paint which recently opened i in Blanco. Jay has 20 plus years of full time work experience in the Auto Body Repair Industry. His dad owned his own shop which specialized in Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW repair. Jay’s knowledge of the trade started with dad taking him in his car carrier to the shop each day while he worked on cars.

While our weather here in the Hill Country has always been a bit unpredictable, don't you find it a little weird that we had three years of pretty severe drought, extreme, record-setting heat, and now this year, record-setting rains? We've all heard the stories about cow flatulence and such being the biggest cause of global warming.

Navy Seaman David M. Bradley, a 2006 graduate of Johnson City High School, Johnson City, Texas, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Bradley completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Dear Editor, In response to the call for a letter-writing campaign by John Watson in last week’s BCN, I respectfully submit that a bit of homework is in order. The letter was long on persuasion, but short on facts. No one, not even President Bush, contends that SCHIP should be scrapped, leaving disadvantaged children without medical care.

The Blanco Middle School Star of the Week is the Blanco Middle School Student Council. Twenty-one members of the Blanco Middle School student council joined together with members of Blanco Masonic Lodge # 216 to pick up trash on a two mile stretch of Highway 281 north of Blanco last Saturday. The Blanco Lady Panthers took to the road for their first district game on Saturday, October 6. The Panthers went up against the Comfort Deer. The Panthers took a victory in the first game with a score of 25-23. Comfort then took two wins in a row with scores of 25-23 and 25-13, Blanco struck back in the fourth game to take their second victory with a score of 25-17.

The Blanco Middle School Panthers took on Fredericksburg on Thursday, October 4. The seventh grade team played a tough game but came up a little short at the end with a final score Blanco 14, Fredericksburg 16. The BYFL’s JV Gold team took on the Dripping Springs P team Saturday in Dripping Springs. With both teams holding a 3-1 record it looked to be a great match-up. Blanco would receive the ball and march downfield with ease, with Ryan Ronces leading the way with 7 carries for 40 yards.

Linda Baylis spent an enjoyable few days with her daughter, Lauri, taking in the Heart of Texas fair and just doing girl stuff. Yeehaw! Bobby and Judy Brewer are back in town! It's about time! Attended Workshop October 7, 1987 Eight of the Blanco FHA members attended a workshop in Fredericksburg on Tuesday, September 29. The workshop centered on leadership. On of the most important parts of being a leader is the ability to communicate with one another. The members tested their skills by participating in several communications exercises.
