League City-based ERF Wireless Inc. announced Monday that the company has completed the acquisition of the assets and operations of TSTAR Internet Inc. The transaction, which closed on October 31, is the tenth acquisition by EFR of a Texas-based wireless Internet service provider and includes all current customers and network infrastructure equipment of TSTAR, including approximately 22 tower locations. Three weeks ago, ERF acquired Momentum Online Internet Services Inc.

At a meeting on October 25th, the Blanco County Historical Commission voted to initiate the 2008 celebration for Blanco County with an event to commemorate the formation of Blanco County in March of 1858. We will celebrate our history with displays, stories, music, and a pageant as a tribute to this event in March 2008. Texas Recycles Day (TRD), which takes place annually on November 15, aims to raise public awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of recycling. The theme for this year’s Texas Recycles Day is “It All Comes Back to You.” The Recycling Alliance of Texas is motivating Texans to make recycling part of their everyday lives.

It started as an idea between two friends who wanted to open a local venue for their novel homemade products. When all was said and done, five women, each with unique businesses of their own, opened a charming boutique, The Vintage Cottage, just off the square in Blanco. Jill Hunter, owner of Texas Lavender Hills, and Rebecca West, owner of Baby Bella, were already selling their products on-line, but they wanted a way to promote them locally.

Tejas Art Club has planned a day of fun and entertainment for Saturday, November 10, 2007, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Local artists will have their art displayed for sale at the old Blanco Courthouse grounds. The Blanco Youth Theatre will preview their Christmas production, A Rocking Christmas Tune, at 12:30.

Spiderman 3 Keith–Spiderman 3 tries to catch us in its web this week with the third installment of Peter Parker and friends. I loved the first two films but critics weren't as sold on this film, so I viewed it with reserved enthusiasm. I have to say that I liked this film a lot.

Thank you, Blue Bike Riders, for having fun and checking out the blue bikes! The Blanco Blue Bikes have had quite the workouts with many of the bikes returned to the shop for some hardcore repairs. Jeff Renard, Bike Mechanic and Teacher for Bike Repair classes, nodded as I expressed sadness that the bikes were not being treated with more respect.

Progress continues toward rekindling interest in “lighting up Blanco” for the Christmas holidays. Members of the Blanco Chamber of Commerce, together with other interested citizens and businesspeople, met again on Tuesday, and enthusiasm is building for the annual Courthouse lighting, “Lighting of the Square”, a lighting contest sponsored by Yucca Garden Club, and a “Shop Local” theme with special retail hours and pricing.

In a continuing effort to better serve the sellers and buyers of Blanco County, the Realtors of Blanco county met again Friday for refreshments and property tours. This week’s gathering was hosted by United Country J. Myane Realty and Guardian Title Co., Inc. At the October general meeting of the Blanco Good Samaritan Center, Treasurer Lucy Uselton reported that 72 families in Blanco County had requested and been given aid in September. Officers elected for the year 2008 were Whitey Uselton, president; Irene Baird, vice president; Pam Ridlehuber, secretary; and Lucy Uselton, treasurer. The Food Committee will be composed of Terry and June Carmichael, Arlyn Cook, and Doug Johnson.

The Southwestern Texas Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) at their September council meeting sanctioned New Hope Lutheran of Blanco as a Synodically Authorized Worshiping Community. Currently serving as the Synodically Authorized Minister for New Hope is Mary Louise “SKIP” Brasher. She received her Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest.

Luke F. Sheppard III, 47 years old, died on November 2, 2007 at his parent’s home near Blanco after a long bout with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his parents, Luke Jr. and Margaret Sheppard of Blanco, brother, Walter Sheppard Jones of Friendswood, Texas, aunts and uncles Bob and Mildred Sheppard Jones of Blanco, Texas, Edith Smith of Leaky, Texas, and Emma Lee Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Tillie LeDoux was born Matilda Emily Weirich at Morris Ranch near Fredericksburg to Alvina Hilker and Henry Jacob Weirich. She attended school at Morris Ranch until her family moved to a Johnson City farm in 1920. Tillie was one of seven children, four boys and three girls. She was the eldest daughter, born July 3, 1912.

Dear Editor, The purpose of this letter is to register a strong complaint against our Commissioners Court regarding their mis-handling and mismanagement of the replacement windows for the Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City. The “cost” of their mismanagement to our County could be in the millions of dollars. Why? First, the FACTS: • State law requires that the Texas Historical Commission (THC) be consulted before modifications to designated historical buildings such as our Court.

In grateful appreciation of their service to our country, Blanco Elementary invites all veterans to enjoy a musical program and luncheon in their honor. Friday, November 9th beginning at 10:30 in our auditorium at the elementary school, the first grade will present a collection of patriotic songs. Following the musical program, veterans are encouraged to join us for a turkey and all the trimmings luncheon in the cafeteria.

Austin wins the 2008 Gran Prix Circuit opening Tennis Tournament held at Oak Hills in San Anontio on October 27-28. Corrola won four matches - three matches were against Madison High Shcool Varisty Tennis team members. Tournament director - Michael Timoskevich awards Corrola his 1st place trophy. The next tournament will be at Sonterra in San Antonio on November 17-18.

The Blanco Volleyball team traveled to Stockdale Thursday night to take on Rice Consolidated in a Region IV Area playoff match. The Panthers were minus a starter most of the game due to injury (Mackenzie Ray). The Rice Lady Raiders took advantage with a barrage of hits and huge blocks.

As a result of their dominating 41 to 0 win over the visiting Sonora Broncos, the Blanco Panthers have clinched the 2007 District 8-AA Championship. In posting their second straight shutout, the Panthers limited the Broncos to just 125 yards while forcing a turnover deep in Panther territory on Sonora’s only threatening drive of the night. Blanco would find the end zone in every quarter with Kevin Gray leading the way with a 17 yard run in the first quarter.

Blanco Middle School Panthers took on the Sonora Broncos on Thursday, November 1. The seventh grade started out the night as they took an easy victory with a final score 22-0. Tim Goodman made two touchdowns and Darren White scored one. Two point conversions were made by Sam Isenberg, Tim Goodman and Jessie Ruiz.

Where did October go? Here it is November and my to do list for October isn’t finished. Prepare potted plants to be moved inside-hibiscus and bougainvillea can be cut back to fit inside; Plumeria needs to be moved when the temp reaches 40°. If the stalk freezes it won’t come back the next season.
