In his report to the Blanco city council on March 20, planning and zoning commission chair Jud Prince informed members that P&Z members recommended denying a request for a digital reader board sign for the proposed Sonic Drive-In on Highway 281 South, based on a recently-adopted city council ordinance. Instead, P&Z members recommended granting a variance for a fixed reader board sign 8 feet high by 6 feet wide.

Consultants hired by the Pedernales Electric Cooperative unveiled a proposed new rate design plan at the PEC Board of Directors meeting in Marble Falls on Monday afternoon. David Hedrick, Vice President of C.H. Guernsey & Company said their proposal “balances conflicting concerns” and like any change in business philosophy, it will “create winners and losers.” Hedrick and two other Guernsey representatives explained the major changes contained in the report.

By Priscilla Seals In his report at the March 9 meeting of the Blanco ISD trustees, superintendent Dr. Buck Ford announced that Blanco High School’s speech and debate team under the leadership of Russell Kirksey was honored recently at the Texas State Capital by House Resolution 660 introduced by Representative Patrick Rose.

Ruby Weisinger was born to parents Goodwin and Laura Etta Trainer October 16, 1919 and peacefully died the morning of March 14, 2009. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Arthur Dean Weisinger and her son Kenneth Dean Weisinger. She is survived by her brother Wyatt Eugene Trainer, her sister Lois Erlene Akin, nephews, nieces and their families.

Spanish Club To Hold Dance March 16, 1969 There will be a Baile (dance) held in the Parish Hall Thursday, March 20, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The Spanish Club is sponsoring the dance as a fund raising project. Singles $0.50, Couples $0.75. Artists raise funds for annual art scholarship March 15, 1989 Hill Country Artists is fund raising for its annual art scholarship in memory of Louise White, which has been awarded to a number of Blanco High School graduates in recent years.
