With rain scarce, the Blanco State Park has seen water levels in the Blanco River drop below normal levels, so low in some areas that it is only ankle deep. However, some good is coming out of the lack of water flow. Last week, the first impoundment of the Blanco River located in the State Park was drained completely, which will allow park crews a chance to repair leaks in the dam.

About 60 miles east of El Paso is, or was, the town of McNary. The town, which consisted of a general store and service station, was bypassed in the 1960s with the advent of Interstate 10 and fell into anonymity and ruin. Defiance is based on true events that happened during WWII and one must focus on the survivors to create a workable film about the Holocaust. It’s only through the eyes and ears of the survivors (and their tales of suffering) that we can appreciate the enormity, and the scope of what occurred to the victims of the Holocaust. The movie focuses on three brothers and their survival; and the survival of others they chose to help escape the inevitable doom that was in store for them.

COLLEGE STATION – During the next few decades this year's summer of 100-plus temperatures and parched soils may represent the norm, not the exception, for much of Texas, said a climatology expert. However, this winter could be wetter, thanks to an El Niño currently building in the Pacific, but the long-term trend suggests more hot and dry summers, said Dr.

Bastrop County in Central Texas lost 12,000 head of cattle to the drought, and Texas farmers are facing more than $1 billion in losses this year.

When a Johnson City woman died last weekend, she left 50 or more cats and 1 dog in the hands of fate. As you approach the now abandoned house, cats seem to come from everywhere. They emerge out of the squalid house, jump from trees and scamper out of the bushes hoping for their next meal.

In the [[http://www.blancocountynews.com/news/article/18038 last article I shared my views]] about how we are all interconnected in this day and age and how we cannot become indifferent to the suffering of others. Well, we can’t turn a blind eye to injustices either, especially when they occur in the United States. Last week we started to look at the different forms of judging. We learned from Scripture that all judging is not wrong. We should judge what is right (Lk 12:57, Jn 7:24). Dear Editor, About two weeks ago, I drove up to the mail box at the Super S parking lot to deposit some mail only to find the mail box was gone. Seems as though our post office has determined that we don’t need it. As the postal service cuts back on service, and is even considering a “mail less” day, I am wondering where does it end.

You probably know what's been going on in the real estate market the past few years. After all, you see the news stories. But there's something you may not realize. Those reports are meaningless.
