The Canyon Lake Hawks used an efficient and effective passing game to amass over 300 yards through the air and avenge last year’s 63 to 0 season opening loss to the Panthers by coming from behind to claim a 21 to 14 victory. When the Texas Department of State Health Services is ready to open flu shot clinics in Blanco County this fall, two dozen freshly trained volunteers will be ready to help run them. They expect to get their first test with this season’s flu shot clinics, both the regular seasonal flu and the H1N1 swine flu.

Over 1,000 people visited the Exhibit Hall on Friday and Saturday during the Blanco County Fair. AUSTIN, Texas — Despite extended drought conditions across much of Texas, wildlife biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department suggest there has been enough moisture to set the stage for good hunting this dove season. Doug Pautz of Blanco represented the state of Texas at the National Senior Games held August 1-15 in San Francisco. Held every two years, the Games have about 15,000 participants with ages ranging from 50 to over 100. He won his age group (55-59) in the 10K run and placed second in the 5K.

Dear Editor, The President said, “We need a national civilian security force.” All alarms should go off on that statement. He went on to say it (the civilian force) should be as large and as well-funded as the Armed Forces. Let me name a few of the civilian security forces he has at present.

Several members of the Blanco FFA Chapter took part in the annual Blanco County Fair Prospect Steer Show in Johnson City. Seniors Kaleigh Anderson and Quaid Haack led the way, as each exhibited breed and division champions. Kaleigh took home champion honors in the Simbrah class, in addition to claiming top honors overall in the American Breed Division.

Brian Roche won the Boys 18s Division of the 2009 San Antonio Gran Prix Masters Invitational Tournament held this past weekend at Alamo Heights Robbins Tennis Center. This tournament is open only to the top players in each age division and allows the opportunity to compete for a spot on the city team that will represent San Antonio at the State Tournament. Brian will be competing at the State Tournament that will take place September 25-27 at John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels.

On Wednesday, August 26, the monthly Birthday Party was held at Live Oak Medical Center. Doris Collins and members of the Church of Christ came to host the party. Cakes were brought to serve to the residents and they also enjoyed ice cream and punch. Darlene Kiernan played the piano as Dorthy Dillon sang many favorite songs for residents to enjoy.

I use the word “timing” to refer to basic components of a transaction, like finding an available property that fits your needs, making an offer before someone beats you to the punch, getting financing when rates are favorable, and putting your home on the market at the best possible time.
