The Blanco Volunteer Fire Department has hired nine part time employees in an effort to increase coverage during the week. Because the BVFD has relied on volunteers to respond to calls, the crews were often shorthanded and response time was slow. Having each firefighter work two twelve hour shifts a week has helped to ensure that there will always be someone there to respond.

Those in attendance at the crowded April 6 public hearing regarding annexation of properties to the city of Blanco heard a number of residents express confusion over what annexation really means. In the late 1980s, two women, Bernice West and Melba Moore set about on a mission and produced Blanco County Heritage, a book telling the story of Blanco and the families that settled here in the beginning.
Gathering information from a multitude of sources and relying on memory of stories from their childhoods, the two were able to write the story of Blanco and its people.
Only 100 were printed in 1987, and copies were quickly sold.

I have been involved in Boy Scouts one way or another almost continuously since I was nine years old. During that time the motto, “Do a Good Turn Daily,” has become, I think, a part of who I am. Perhaps it is even one of the reasons I write these articles.
The words of a familiar hymn come to mind:
Have I done any good in the world today?
Have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad and
made someone feel ...
