My wife was driving one morning when we passed through Silver City, New Mexico. I noticed that the flag in front of an elementary school was flying upside down. Johnson National Historical Park invites the public to view a classic Hollywood western movie on Saturday, June 5 at 8:30 p.m. by attending a screening of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The movie will be projected onto an 18 by 25 foot outdoor screen that includes a professional sound system.

Bonnie W. Eisenschmidt passed away May 25, 2010, at the age of 86. She was born in Blanco, Texas, on November 26, 1923, the youngest child of Herb and Maggie Wier. A long-time resident of San Antonio, Bonnie worked as a bookkeeper and legal secretary. She enjoyed traveling and after retiring took several trips sponsored by Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, where she was a member and volunteer in various capacities for over 40 years. This school year’s Blanco Elementary 5th grade students enjoyed participating in the 15th (more or less) annual overnight trip to Port Aransas and Corpus. As usual, they enjoyed observing dolphins and handling sea life netted from the intercostal canal on our 2 hour boat trip. The Champion Baseball team played in the Austin Select Baseball tournament Battle at the Capital II, which was played in Manchaca on Saturday.

Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center’s first of 10 summer day camp sessions will center around skills and drills for football and cheerleading campers. Set for the week of June 7 through June 11, the camp will take place at Lady Bird Johnson Park for children ages five through 12. It will include basic techniques such as reaction drills for football players and proper motions for cheerleaders.
