At a special board meeting on Monday, August 23, the Blanco Board of Trustees ordered a bond election to be held on November 2, 2010, to have voters elect to support or oppose the issuance of $8.835 million in school building bonds for various improvements throughout the District. The order is the culminating result of a facility study by architect Randy Fromberg, who was first commissioned to conduct the study by the Board in August 2009.

On Sunday, September 5 at approximately 5:00 p.m. a trailer house went up in flames and nothing but a charred shell remained. The home, located in the Kothmann South Addition on Glennview Drive, quickly burned even as crews from both Blanco and Spring Branch Volunteer Fire Department battled the blaze. Witnesses said that it appeared that no one was home when the fire started.

Project Graduation for the BHS class of ‘11 kicked off with its first fundraiser at the first home football game. Parents and students held an 80/20 raffle, where the winner, Kim Phipps, won twenty percent of the income. Her prize was $9, which she donated back to Project Graduation (PG). Nine years after the horrific attacks on U.S. soil, the memory of those who perished lives on. Keep Blanco Beautiful erected the Liberty Garden Bench Memorial in 2002 so that the citizens of Blanco would have a place to remember all of those lost that day. “To the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001,” reads the plaque embedded in the bench.

The emergency room doors banged open and a father, closely followed by his sixteen year-old son, ran through cradling the unconscious form of his eight year-old boy. AUSTIN — Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott on Sept. 1 made public the Texas Education Agency’s proposed budget cuts for fiscal years 2012-2013, in accordance with Gov, Rick Perry’s request for a 10 percent reduction. If approved, the amount of funding for Texas public schools will be cut by than $260 million.

The Jewish faith has a completely different view of the concept of sin from that of Christianity. These differences were made especially clear for me in the book "Judaism and Christianity: The Differences" By Trude Weiss-Rosmarin. She dedicates chapter three to the subject and titles it Free Will Vs. Original Sin.

It’s time for the fall garden. Have you tilled yours up yet? Pull up all those plants that are not producing, add some old manure and prepare for the fall harvest. Perhaps let your chickens walk around in there to eat the bugs and drop some manure? How about planting God’s seeds into your life for a future harvest?

Dr. Charles E. (Charlie) Tatum, Jr., 78, died in his home in Fredericksburg on Friday, September 3, 2010. Charlie was born on September 26, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Charles Edward Tatum, Sr. and Muriel Lorraine Covington Tatum. He is survived by one brother, William F. (Bill) Tatum and his wife Mary Anne of San Antonio and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

James Stewart Jones was born November 28, 1955 to James Roland (Buddy) Jones and Ara Jackson Jones. He was the third child born of this union. He departed this life September 4, 2010 at the age of 54. Stewart Jones accepted Christ at a late age. He was a member of Mt Horeb Baptist Church.

Lt Col (Retired AF) Steven "Banger" Wallender flew West on the 4th of September at 0900 hours, after a long and difficult struggle with cancer. Steve passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home after a courageous 13 month long battle with cancer. Several members of the Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA traveled to Johnson City to take part in the annual Blanco County Fair Livestock Show, where more than 150 animals from surrounding counties competed in the lamb, goat, and steer shows. On Friday night, more than 70 lambs were exhibited.

For the third consecutive weekend, steer exhibitors from the Blanco FFA Chapter were on the road, exhibiting cattle at the Gillespie County Fair in Fredericksburg. Overall, the local FFA members did very well, with several placing at the top of their respective classes. Leading the way was Kolby Marek, whose Brangus steer won Breed Champion honors.

The Panther football team faced one of the top 2-AA teams in the state this past Friday when they hosted the Lexington Eagles. After scoring the game’s first touchdown early in the first quarter, the Panthers were poised for an upset. The level 4 VIP team athletes competed in their second competition this fall season at Platinum Gymnastics in Round Rock on August 28. The VIP Team included Level 4 Achievement gymnasts Miranda Bosque, Lexus Carton, Haley Chappell, Hannah Ford, Skylar Maurer, Amalie Mills, and Hannah Perine. Level 4 Placement gymnasts included Meghan Cleveland, Zoey Madigan, and Jordan White.
