The governing body of Blanco heard two new requests for variances on signage at their November 9 meeting. As Planning and Zoning commission member Courtney Curbow had warned earlier, other local motel owners want a variance to construct signs as large as the one granted to Blanco Luxury Suites owner Bharat Patel.

While substitute teaching at the middle school in Johnson City, I was taking attendance one morning and came across the name of “John W. Hardin.” I asked the student who responded to the name if the “W” happened to stand for “Wesley.” He said that it did. I then asked him if he knew anything about the original John Wesley Hardin.

Over a year ago I wrote a short article series about what I considered to be the footstool of Judaism. Three vital pieces or “legs” on which the Jewish people stand are “covenant, Torah and Israel.” Without these three we wouldn’t be a complete people. Why? Because covenant with God is what make the Torah and Israel relevant to the Jewish people.

By John Kinslow, Minister, Blanco Church of Christ
Someone has said, "Experience comes from what we have done. Wisdom comes from what we have done badly." Hopefully there is some truth in that statement. In other words we are able to learn even from our mistakes. First, we must admit that we made a mistake. We can't play the blame game.

Fascinating, incredible would be two adjectives describing the beliefs of our neighbors. Western cults have their roots in Christianity, usually claiming to be the true church. They use the Bible as one of their resources and Jesus Christ as a central figure in their beliefs. Many churches will not teach on the beliefs of their neighbors, because they are afraid they might offend someone.
Paul wrote to the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 1:18, “For the message of the cross is ...

Psalm 37:23 “23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.” (NLT)
Have you ever asked God to order your steps? Have you ever sung the song? Well, if you sang the song, you asked Him!
I quote the words of the song “Order My Steps Lord”:
“Please order my step in Your word.

1Jn 3:1-3 says, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Dear editor,
I would like to share this Thanksgiving thought with the dear folks of Blanco: There is no greater blessing for a mother than to have her children return home and gather around her table. Should there be an empty chair it is a sorrow. May God bless the mothers of this world and comfort them in their children’s absence.

The third time was the charm for the Industrial Cobras as they avenged two previous defeats in the play-offs at the hands of the Panthers, ending Blanco’s season on a stormy night in Halletsville by the score of 14 to 6. Although Blanco moved the ball effectively at times, 5 costly turnovers proved to be too much for the Panthers to overcome.
The opening quarter of play saw Blanco take their only lead of the night on a strong run by QB Tanner Rogers.

Things to do in November:
1. Remove or compost debris from flower beds and gardens to help control insects and disease next year.
2. Following the first killing frost, remove dead plants and overseed the gardens with a winter cover crop. Elbon cereal rye will help to decrease root nematodes in tomatoes and other crops.

Gentle readers,
I was lucky enough to bump into Ronnie Cooley at the BUMC bazaar and snag three loaves of Ms. Ada's light bread before they even got to the baked goods room. She hasn't lost her touch! And I was also lucky enough, even having spilled my chili on my truck seat, to beat everybody to Florine Lord's wine cakes and Leona Smylie's pecan pie.
