We had grown into a major high school with almost 3,000 students—but our new gymnasium was still under construction. We were to play our cross-town rivals at home with the district basketball championship riding on the outcome. Our little gym, however, only held about 440 spectators—standing room only—and the head coach from the rival team insisted that we move the game either to his gym or to a neutral site.

Hanukkah is behind us and Christmas is rapidly approaching for my Christian friends and neighbors. The majority of people I encounter assume I celebrate Christmas and the ones who learn that I don’t simply can’t understand why not. I know this time of year must be entirely different for Jews who reside in Israel.

This Greek phrase is used at the beginning and at the end of this verse thus: “After these things (after writing the things concerning the churches of Revelations 2 thru 3). In Ephesians 5:1 the apostle Paul called on the saints of Ephesus to "be imitators of God, as beloved children." The same thought is also found elsewhere in I Corinthians 11:1 where Paul says, "Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ." The subject matter in the context of these passages should be of special interest to each child of God since we are being called upon to become like the Father in heaven.
