Blanco ISD will hold a school board election on May 14, 2011, at the Blanco Elementary Cafeteria from 7am to 7pm. Places 1 and 2 are due to expire. On Friday, March 18, Tex Riley and representatives from Blanco County went before district court Judge Dan Mills. Riley had filed a suit against the county to seek the release of tape recordings of three closed session meetings held by the Blanco County Commissioners Court. The Texas Attorney General concluded in December of last year that the tapes were not subject to disclosure except by a district court order in a lawsuit filed under the Texas Open Meetings Act.

On Monday, the Johnson City Police Department issued an urgent notification about two Hispanic males who are suspects in a burglary of a residence on Miller Creek Road. The Annual Baseball/Softball Camp was held Monday, March 15 and Tuesday, March 16. The campers were instructed by Coach Bryan Wyatt, Coach Jason Marek, Coach Michael Seales, and several volunteer Blanco High School baseball and softball players. On Monday, the campers learned correct throwing, catching, and sliding techniques. The sliding lesson is especially popular with the campers.

Matt Murrah and his wife Karen, along with Molly (age 10), Daniel (age 5), and Mae (18 months) were on the cover of Dallas Baptist University Report. Murrah, who has been the vice president of technology since 2009, graduated from Blanco High School in 1993. He attended Blanco First Baptist Church.

Volunteers from around the Hill Country came to Blanco County Saturday to assemble hygiene kits for survivors of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, but you had to look quick to see it. On March 18, Zocalo Cafe and the Blanco Chamber of Commerce celebrated Zocalo’s official Grand Opening. On hand from Zocalo were Chef Richard Brisco, manager Melynnda Button, owner Rich Hopkins from Tucson, AZ, and his partner Lisa Novak from Houston. Chef Richard prepared a sampler of ahi tuna bruchettas, mini carrot cakes and rueben sandwiches.

The three goals that were established in the Blanco Historic Preservation Action Plan in 2007 have kept many of the volunteers and the Blanco Historic Preservation Commissioners very busy for the past 3 and a half years. Preserving the night sky and controlling light pollution and exploring targeted lighting for pedestrian traffic and car traffic in keeping with rural character are a part of the "Manage Growth to Protect Rural Character and Natural Resources"

Belinda Olivo Perez was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 3, 1962. She received her associates degree from San Antonio College and also attended Incarnate Word University. As a young lady she was a high school state qualifier in the 4 x 100 sprint relay and also participated on a Junior Olympics team.

A team of young marksmen from Blanco County is gearing up for National Competition after placing third at the 2011 Texas State 4-H BB Gun Championships held in Fredericksburg, TX on March 12, 2011. The competition included 12 teams as well as several individuals from throughout the state of Texas. Three teams and four individuals from the Blanco County 4-H Shooting Sports proved their ability at this match.

The varsity Panther baseball team walked away with a 9-12 loss on March 18 in a home game against Pawhuska. In their next game, also played at home, they battled it out with Marion and won 19-17. The JV team played St. Andrews on February 28 and won 8-2.

On Friday, March 18, the softball team traveled the short distance north to play the Johnson City Eagles. The Eagles used solid defense and batting to upend the Panthers 14-4. The first three Johnson City hitters bunted to get on base, with all three eventually scoring runs. Through the volunteer efforts and many contributions from businesses and environmental organizations, we can all enjoy this wonderful structure and enhanced environment for bird watching and other wildlife activity observation. This site includes a water feature, supplied by a rainwater collection system for water conservation, and bird feeders.
