The body of a 55-year-old man was discovered in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 26, in his residence in the 300 block of East Headwaters Ranch Road, according to a statement issued by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office. The residence is located in the Headwaters Ranch subdivision, just a third of a mile into Kendall County, about 6 miles north of Kendalia, and about 6 miles southwest of Blanco. Sibby Barrett, founder and owner of Onion Creek Kitchens at Juniper Hills Farm, located between Blanco and Dripping Springs, is cooking up a menu for the April 15 "Tuscan Dinner and a Movie" event sponsored by Friends of the Library. This will be the fifth year Sibby has mentored a group of library volunteers in preparing food for the annual event which will be staged at the Old Blanco County Court House.

The City of Blanco’s new, official website, located at www.cityofblanco.com, is now online and offers meeting notices, agendas, and contact information. Meeting agendas are sent out by email to those subscribed to the notification list. The services and information available on the website will continue to expand in the coming weeks as capabilities are added.

Several members of the Blanco FFA Chapter traveled to Houston this past month to exhibit their market animal projects in the Houston Livestock Show. Overall, ten different exhibitors from Blanco placed in their respective classes with eight qualifying for the premium sale. Over 65 bags of trash were collected by teams of kids and adults who cleaned up the city and the Blanco River during the annual Trash-Off on Saturday, April 2. A mattress, two tires, and a bundle of rusty chickenwire were also picked up. 77 people participated in the event this year – 45 kids and 32 adults.

The Blanco Police Department has released a report regarding the March 28 accident. A Mazda Tribute, registered in San Antonio, and a Dodge Ram, registered in Blanco, were involved. Each vehicle had two occupants. According to the report, the driver of the Tribute, a 26-year-old female, failed to yield right of way at the stop sign while heading north on Mesquite St.

All over the park are signs of spring.  The grass is greener; bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes and Engelmann’s daisy have all begun to bloom.  The pecan trees, always the last to accept the change, have buds at the bursting point. You can see it in the wildlife as well. Birds are making nests all over the place! I encourage you to read Mt 6:5-13 carefully. Last week we began to talk about God’s pattern for prayer that He laid out for His disciples, commonly referred to as "The Lord’s Prayer". We saw that: 1. We are commanded to pray. 2. We are not to pray like hypocrites, just for show.

Mr. Rogers, thank you for your comments. My assumptions as to your job description were evidently incorrect. Should there have been legal action or if there is legal action in the future "I assumed" you would be involved. My actions have never been to make people think ill of any of our elected or appointed officials.

AUSTIN — On Sunday, April 3, the Texas House of Representatives tentatively approved a state budget for 2012-2013 and sent it to the Senate for consideration. The 1,000-plus page budget bill, HB 1, relies on funding cuts and "contingency riders" based on expected funding that would come through the passage of other legislation.

On April 1, the Panther varsity team defeated Comfort 17-6 to take sole possession of first place in district. Clint Dreyer picked up his fifth win on the mound; he went seven strong innings, striking out nine and scattering nine hits. The Panthers exploded on offense with twelve hits. Ethan Evans had the big stick of the night, going 2 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBI.

The elementary parking lot was the place for an exciting new fundraiser, hosted by PTO, on Thursday, March 10. All grades participated during their regular scheduled physical education time. The entire parking lot was closed off for the day and the activities began at 8:10 sharp. The PTO moms and school staff kept the water and fruit coming throughout the day.

The Lady Panthers tallied district wins over Harper and Comfort last week to improve their record to 14-11 overall and 3-1 in District 8AA. On Tuesday, March 29, Blanco defeated Harper 15-0 in four innings. The game started slowly with no runs scored after two innings, but the Panthers found their bats in the 3rd, scoring ten runs in the inning.

Gardeners are very anxious to get the garden planted. Many have already planted and had to plant again. Maybe this last cold spell was our Easter spell. We are at the intersection of spring and summer crops. Cool weather crops are almost finished and it is time to plant warm season flowers and vegetables. Continue to plant spring and summer flowers before the weather becomes too hot.

Bucky was all of twenty years old. That’s old for a cow. Of all the animals on the place, Bucky was my wife’s favorite. After all, she was the matriarch of all the bovine livestock on our little farm, all of which descended from her. Bucky’s daughter is a big grey named Susie.

The biggest news this week is that I forgot the biggest news two weeks ago. Judy and Bob Dorsett celebrated their 20th anniversary by going out for a night on the town at Fort Sam Houston - it was more than just Fort Sam - it was at the Harlequin Dinner Theater, where they "Boogied Back to Texas"

An officer with the Blanco Police Department made a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Mesquite St. on March 2. During the stop, the officer discovered prescription drugs in the vehicle. An 18-year-old white male was arrested and charged with possession of a dangerous drug. The drugs were confiscated as evidence.

April 5, 1963 Miss Marilyn Byars was selected to represent the Blanco Lions Club at the District Convention in Austin as a candidate for Lions District Queen. • The Blanco Unit of the Texas State Teacher’s Association met in the Blanco School cafeteria for the purpose of electing and installing new officers for the 1963-1964 year.

I’d like to tell you that we no longer need laws to protect homebuyers and renters from discrimination, but we’re not there yet. While I hope you never experience discrimination, know that federal law prohibits denying an individual or group the right to buy or rent a home based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, family status, or disability. So, how pervasive is housing discrimination in the 21st century?
