Elvis impersonator Robert Moran of New Braunfels visited Live Oak Medical Center on December 15 to entertain the residents and visitors with a lively and enjoyable show. When he’s not working in the post office, Moran participates in Elvis impersonation contests.

Community Services Director Tina Morrow reported to members of the governing body of Blanco at their regular meeting December 13, asking for their help in finding new quarters in the city. Since 1974 the organization has served low-income and elderly residents of Blanco, providing meals through Meals on Wheels, energy assistance, and exercise classes.

Blanco County’s team of wheelchair ramp builders made another recipient happy Saturday, even though it may have been the shortest ramp in the Texas Ramp Project’s history.

December 22, the 99th anniversary of Lady Bird Johnson’s birth, is the first day the general public will tour the entire ground floor of the famous Texas White House. The ranch house, which served Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ambassadors, and Heads-of-State, gained fame during the 1960s when President and Mrs. Johnson hosted hundreds of visitors on the LBJ Ranch.
Stonewall, Texas and the surrounding region welcomed the world to the Hill Country in the 1950s and 1960s.

The residents of Hye have been waiting to hear from the United States Postal Service on the fate of their local post office. The Hye Post Office, which serves the town of 105 located on the border of Blanco and Gillespie counties, is on the list of more than 3,600 post offices on the chopping block.

Residents and families gathered at Live Oak Medical Center on December 14 for the annual dinner. Nearly 200 people attended this year. The center provided turkey and all the fixings; the families brought desserts. The residents, assisted by the staff, were dressed in holiday garb.

The Blanco ISD Music Department held their 2011 Christmas Concert on December 13. Bands from the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades performed and the Blanco High School band concluded the event.

John R. Thomas, CEO of the largest working wildflower farm in the world, says the recent showers and mild weather have aided bluebonnets and other wildflowers to germinate in November, plenty of time to develop into large hardy plants for a colorful Spring Show.

So many stories continuously happen at the Blanco Pioneer Museum and many of our visitors relate to us happenings from their families, so in this article I wish to impart one of the stories.
Very recently an adorable young lady and her mother were visiting the museum. The young girl was occupied by one of the docents.

Lawrence and I were talking about the Christmas song “Silent Night” and why it’s so popular. I believe it is the stanza “Holy Infant, so tender and mild” that endears it to us because we all love babies, and instinctively cradle them in our arms. It fills my heart to think of God coming to this earth in human form, just like all of us.

Joyce Dean Armke, 81, passed away December 15, 2011, in Fredericksburg. Joyce was born in the Rocky Creek Community of Blanco County to E.O. and Vona Nowotny. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara Mortimer, and foster son, Tim Daniels. I was really taken back and upset to find that you had put the murder and autopsy of my daughter Lacey in the Remember When section of your paper. I do realize that you can print what you want, but I do think that you can use better discretion and be considerate of those who have lost children or loved ones.

AUSTIN — Battles over redistricting may have put Texas’ 2012 election cycle in an apparent state of suspended animation, but movement on a related subject occurred last week.
The Texas Democratic Party and the Republican Party of Texas on December 16 issued a statement announcing that the two parties submitted a joint agreed proposal on the 2012 General Primary Election to the U.S.

“¡Dale! ¡Dale! ¡ Dale!” (Hit it!) shouted the Blanco ISD pre-schoolers as they practiced the piñata-breaking shout. For several weeks the BHS Spanish Club created and stuffed piñatas as a service project. Club officers: Leslie McClinton (president), Matt Le Blanc (Vice-President) Alina Aly (Secretary) and Annie Albrecht (filling in for injured Matt Pepper) delivered the piñatas.

Blanco vs. Randolph – On December 13, the boys' basketball team went on the road to Randolph for non-district games against the Ro-Hawks. The freshmen and JV teams opened their seasons with resounding wins, while the varsity fell two points shy of a sweep of the action.
Freshmen: Blanco 41, Randolph 29 – The Panthers raced out to an 11-0 lead early on and never looked back.

The Austin Royals defeated the Lady Panthers, 61-85, on Tuesday, December 13. The Panthers kept the score close during the first half, but the Royals exploded with 47 second half points to seal the win.
Kayla Martinez scorched the nets with 18 points, followed by Micaela Klein with 12, Justine Cooley with 9, and Leslie McClinton added 7.

Keep Blanco Beautiful’s goal this year was to light up Blanco more than ever. Well, I believe that happened. The town is beautiful. If you have not been in at night to see all the lights and decorations, you are missing an opportunity for pleasure seeing how beautiful it is.

When my wife and I retired a few years back, we moved out of a house in an El Paso suburb that had almost 2,000 Square feet of living space. We moved in to a house that my wife had purchased from her folks that had approximately half the floor space of the El Paso house.

First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to Dr. Phillip of the Blanco Veterinary Clinic and his family. He had a truck accident Sunday morning and is in the hospital. His surgery went well and they expect him to be able to go home in a couple days.

At the annual Junior Poultry show held in Johnson City, Harry Forbes and Linda Hartman carried off the top honors. The champion Tom was shown by Forbes and was also judged as the reserve champion bird of the show. This bird brought $3.10 per pound at the afternoon auction.
