When a Blanco resident comes home from the hospital, she’ll discover Santa was there in her absence, and left a 66-foot wheelchair ramp under her tree. On December 19, 2011, the first round of candidate filing closed for the April 3, 2012, primary election. A second round of primary election filing will begin after a new date is decided by federal court order due to the battle over redistricting; the second round deadline will be February 1, 2012. With the annual Blanco Historic Cemetery Association membership meeting coming up on the fourth Saturday in February, the association has posted the revised constitution and bylaws on the bulletin board on the cemetery grounds. Saturday, January 28, 2012, is the date for the 3rd Annual Blanco County Youth Show Salsa Contest. The winner will have year-long bragging rights as the best salsa maker in Blanco County and will receive a kitchen knife set by Creative Awards in Fredericksburg. The winner of the 2nd Annual BCYS Salsa contest was Susan Troppy. You must live in Blanco County, or have a child who qualifies to show in the Blanco County Youth Show, to enter.

Allison Lux, a 2006 graduate of Blanco High School, graduated from Angelo State University on Saturday, December 10, 2011, with a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction with a 4.0 GPA. The Friends of the Fredericksburg Nature Center will have a showing of the documentary film, Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic of Our Time, on January 10 at the Texas Extension Service AgriLife Building, 95 Frederick Road, in Fredericksburg beginning at 7:00PM. The film will be part of our first Winter Film Series on nature-related subjects in place of our monthly Nature Series programs.

John 16:33 says, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. Jesus is telling us, His disciples, to not be overcome with fear, dread, worry, depression, and unbelief; but rather to have courage, cheer, comfort, and faith.

When I first saw the hole in my aqua, thermal blanket, which had been on the bed of my great aunt, I was so dismayed. She left it to me when she went to be with our Lord, and I’ve tried to take good care of it, but somehow it must have snagged on something and there it was, a three inch gap in my favorite thermal blanket.

He was born in San Antonio on May 29, 1947, to Kenneth Wayne Burris and Irene Josephine Evers. Charles Daniel “Danny” Cottingham died peacefully at his home near Canyon Lake, Texas, on December 17, 2011. He was born on December 4, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to Patricia and Charles D. Cottingham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Torres, and her son, Jesse Torres. The boys’ basketball team played in the Fredericksburg Holiday Hoopfest during the Christmas break, and followed that up with a game in Center Point. By far the smallest school participating, the Panthers went winless in four games at the Fredericksburg tournament. They turned things around by Friday, though, coming away from Center Point with a victory. As a high school principal it was my responsibility to evaluate the teaching and learning taking place on the campus. I was disappointed one day while visiting the classroom of a history teacher when he simply told the students to open their textbooks, read a designated chapter and to answer the questions at the end. The chapter happened to deal with the westward expansion of the United States in the mid-1800s.
