On Thursday morning at around 4:45am on March 1, the Blanco County News received an emergency notification about a jail escape from the Burnet County Jail. The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, which issued the alert, reported that the escapee was 40-year-old Johnny Angel Ybarra, who had last been last seen at 12:30am. Ybarra was sentenced on February 14, 2012, to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual assault, burglary of a habitation ...

On Tuesday, March 6, the Blanco High School Band competed at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest at Canyon Lake High School. The band received straight ones for both their concert selections and their sight-reading. The band, which previously received ones in marching, earned a UIL Sweepstakes trophy.

The annual membership meeting of the Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society is scheduled for Thursday, March 8, 2012, in the courtroom of the Old Blanco County Courthouse. The Blanco County Historical Commission will meet Thursday, March 8, at 6pm in the Hoppe Room at the Blanco County Annex in Johnson City. The commission will have their regular business meeting, reports on the Blanco Cemetery, Post Oak Cemetery and School, and Sandy School House. Blanco County Sheriff Robert “Bob” Morgan and County Precinct 4 Constable Ronald “Ronnie” Steubing have filed as candidates in the Republican Primary for Blanco County Sheriff. The Panther softball team added eight wins to their season record this past week to climb to an awesome 14-0 start for 2012. The Blanco girls took on Johnson City on February 28 and posted a 12-2, five-inning run rule victory over the Eagles. Meaghen Seales pitched five strike-outs and Callie Culton added one.

On Thursday, February 16, the Hill Country Spurs 4-H horse judging teams competed in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Horse Judging Competition. Senior team 1 members Kendra Smith, Emily Masters, Rilee Moser, and Rachel Harlin placed second out of 166 teams and placed first in District 10. This team will go to Lubbock in June to compete in the Texas 4-H State Horse Judging competition. Rachel Harlin placed sixth out of 559 participants and first in District 10.

Responding to the increased number of citizens wanting to assist law enforcement officials and build a stronger partnership in the fight against crime, Sheriff Bob Morgan today announced that Blanco County citizens are being invited to become Associate Members of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. A sign at a health food restaurant said, "Eat Here, And Live Longer." Not to be out done, the gravy and chicken fried steak type of place next door had a sign that said, "Eat Here, And Die Happy." Wouldn't it be nice if you could do both. Eat as much of all the stuff your not supposed to eat, and those same foods clear your arteries, and melt away the fat.

Dear Editor, Our town is well-represented on the internet with information that will take you to lodging, places to eat, local churches here in Blanco, the Chamber of Commerce, City Hall offices, and much more. I recently typed in “Blanco Library” to find the phone number and was inspired by their website!

We have purchased a lot of alfalfa hay from our friend Rudy Avila in El Paso. We go back to him for two reasons: one, he is a trusted friend, and two; we know we will get a quality product at a good price. Rudy doesn’t sell hay to the big guys.

For someone whose major was French and German, one would think I would know better. I must retract my spelling of "roulez" in next to last week's paper; it should have been "rouler," as in "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" for Mardi Gras. Sister Jeanne Therese is looking down from heaven and scolding me soundly – I can hear her now!

March 10, 1961 Mr. and Mrs. Chas. A. Lindeman were honored on their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house at the home of their son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Alton C. Lindeman. Even though it was a very rainy day, a good many of their friends and relatives came in to visit the couple.
