The Blanco County Commissioners Court held a special meeting on May 22 to consider several items. The Old Blanco County Courthouse, Friends of the Library, and Woman’s Club are hosting a family picnic on the lawn of the Old Blanco County Courthouse this Saturday. From 11am to 3pm, everyone is welcome to join the festivities. Bring your lunch, spread out a blanket on the lawn, buy an ice cream and drinks, and enjoy a Saturday with friends and family. The Woman’s Club will also be selling books for a donation to the Blanco Library.

Peggy’s Playhouse held a Trike-a-Thon on Friday, May 25th. The event, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, helped to educate the children on bike safety. Participants were given the opportunity to enlist sponsors and collect donations in the weeks leading up to the event. Because of the big hearts of the kids and the open pockets of the community, Peggy’s Playhouse was able to raise over $600.00 for St.

Memorial Day was officially celebrated on May 28, 2012, but the appreciation for the many veterans, both men and women, who protect our freedoms should be done each day. The Blanco Pioneer Museum had an appreciation ceremony at 10am on Monday, May 28, at the museum. Nell Krueger, president of the museum and chairman of event, was the master of the ceremonies.

Our Summer Reading program starts this Friday, June 1st and will run through August 10th. This is a two part program, one part reading and one part fun activities. We have two levels of reading: kids ages 8 and under will receive prizes for every 5 books read and kids ages 9-18 will receive prizes for every 5 hours read.

Last year, Blanco County residents filled a trailer with used clothing for disaster relief, so this year they sent a bigger trailer. A reeaally big trailer. “We didn’t completely fill this one,” admitted co-coordinator JoAnn Routh, “but we came pretty close, and we certainly beat last year’s collection.” The 53-foot semi trailer spent the Memorial Day holiday weekend parked at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City, where generous residents came by to deliver used cloth ...

If you have visited Blanco State Park in recent weeks you may have noticed a new garden being installed in the large circular rock-edged area seen just before crossing over the river to the park pavilion. Years ago there was a stately pecan tree in the circle, but after it's death and removal the area succumbed to weeds.

Boys and girls will have more than a place to go this summer; they’ll have a way to be fit and have fun, too. Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center will offer a different activity each week for kids ages 5 through 12 during the Fit Kids Summer Sports and Fitness Day Camp 2012 at Lady Bird Johnson Park. The camp runs 7:30 a.m.

Page, Carol (Gillaspia) of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on May 25, 2012. She was born on Aug. 24, 1963 in Houston, Texas, the third of four daughters. Carol was inspired by her parents Zerl & Gwen Gillaspia of Brady, Texas, who instilled in her a sense of faith, love for her family, courage, honesty, and respect.

Dear Editor, What is going on with our Mayor and City Council? Instead of being here for all the citizens of Blanco they are catering to one citizen and their family. We want to make sure that all citizens are aware of this. We are the homeowners who live on Blanco Avenue east of Loop 163.

What is a Punch List? It is the list that is created once a construction project, new home, or remodel is complete. It can be created by the general contractor and/or the Individual that had the project, new home or remodel. On this list, the general contractor has gone through the home and noted things that need to be fixed, replaced, or touched up.

This Week In.... 1972 4-H students were looking forward to their upcoming tour of Europe to take place the following week. 4-H youth, 16 to 20 years old, from Idaho, Washington, Oregon, South Dakota, New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Montana, Nevada, South Carolina, Iowa, Texas, and Indiana. The youth experienced home-stays with host families, travel by air and bus, and visited historical sites.
