Blanco hosts the eighth annual Blanco Lavender Festival this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, attracting visitors from all over the country. A Lavender Market will spring up on the grounds of the Old Blanco County Courthouse, featuring arts and crafts and local lavender products. Tour local lavender farms where you can experience the beauty of lavender in the fields and the unique vision of each farmer.

Then come experience a tour you will not forget, dinosaur tracks in the Blanco River left by those giant creatures so long ago. Walk by them, walk in them, and imagine what they looked like. You can experience this at the Smith Ranch in Blanco, Texas.

For many Blanco residents, Phillip Strickland’s drug store on the historic square has been a medical resource for as long as they can remember. Filled with mementos of Blanco history, it is a destination for tourists as well, who take time to admire the old photos, the antique clock, and the old typewriters.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a two-vehicle crash involving a truck and motorcycle on Sunday, June 3, claimed the life of 25-year-old Steven Lesher of Montgomery, Texas. No one else was injured.
The accident occurred at around 2:26pm on Sunday on RR 165 at Cotton Trail, DPS reported.

2,127 voters in total turned out for the primary election last Tuesday, May 29, out of the 7,020 registered voters in the county–just over 30%. Voters were asked to decide between two candidates in two county races on the Republican ballot.
In the race for the Republican nomination for Blanco County Sheriff, incumbent Bob Morgan garnered 1,431 votes, defeating challenger Ronnie Steubing, who received 528 votes.

Summer came in April to the Blanco Vet Clinic with the addition of a new veterinarian, Dr. Summer Woodward. A graduate of Tarleton State University and Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine (2011), Dr. Woodward first found Blanco on a drive home to Kerrville from College Station during her third year of vet school and stopped in at the clinic to check it out.

Led by Samantha Primeaux’s state championship in Lincoln-Douglas debate, UIL Academic Team members finished in a sixth-place tie at the state meet held at the University of Texas on May 21-22.
Annnie Albrecht placed third in editorial writing and sixth in headline writing. The current issues and events teams consisting of Braxton Guinn, Marina Hogan, Connor Eyzeguirre, and Chris Barnett placed third.

The Blanco High School LEO Club is a service organization that participates in community volunteer activities. The LEO Club has had a very successful year with over 300 volunteer hours served in the community! We have volunteered at numerous activities including the Blanco Trash Off, decorating Bindseil Park, Tots in Need of Toys, collected can food for Good Samaritan Center, and early Saturday morning trash pick-ups at the Blanco Panther Stadium.

From Blanco Ballet and Dance School
Blanco Ballet and Dance School celebrated the end of the semester with their first annual recital. Three classes presented dances before family and friends.
Blanco Ballet and Dance is proud to serve the community of Blanco. The mission of the school is to use ballet and movement to enhance every student's personal grace, body awareness, and self esteem.
Our goal is to provide classes to all of the children in our community who wish to explore dance.

These young cowboys and cowgirls completed their 2nd go-round of the Blanco Cowboy Church Youth Play Day Buckle Series on Sunday, June 3rd.
After attending morning worship services as their entry fee, the young cowboys and cowgirls saddled their horses and rode into the Church Arena for prayer; asking for God's favor, as they prepared to "Ride for Jesus."

When I write an article full of God’s Word, I use the references in my King James or New Living Translation Bible for additional understanding of His Word. I don’t read books that could confuse me. I encourage you, dear reader, to seek the references I print and read the whole chapter to allow it to soak into your soul and spirit and let the Holy Spirit give you understanding.

Dena Jean Bible went home to be with the Lord May 31, 2012 at 3:45 PM. She has been reunited with her parents Martin and Maurine Banks of Blanco. She is survived by her siblings, Lyn and Becky Banks of New Braunfels, Lynda and Gary Bauman of Valley Springs, Fred Banks of Blanco, David and Joanne Banks of Staples, Debby and Le Waits of Dripping Springs, and Craig and Lanae Banks of Dripping Springs.

Thomas Rayburn Gardner, of Blanco, Texas died in Austin on May 30, 2012, at the age of 83. AUSTIN — About 1.5 million ballots were cast for Republican Party candidates and about 600,000 ballots were cast for Democratic candidates in the 2012 Texas Primary Election, in early voting and on Election Day, May 29.

High School teacher Kim Thompson and elementary instructional aide Mary Jane Hill each won $100 from Blanco Farm Bureau for having perfect attendance during the sixth six weeks grading period.
Farm Bureau sponsors a drawing each grading period, in which qualified employees with perfect attendance are eligible for one of two $ 100 rewards.

New Hope Lutheran Church donated the produce from their garden to Blanco Good Samaritan Center.
Hilary Huser accepted about 20 pounds of squash, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and Swiss chard.

After the fall, after the wreck, after the fire…we all think “If only I had…” We realize that accidents can and should be prevented.
Each June, the National Safety Council encourages individuals and organizations to get involved and participate in National Safety Month. NSM is an annual observance to educate and influence behaviors around the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths.

Summer is here and so are the 99-degree days. We need to prepare for another year of drought. Most of all, the landscape needs one inch of water each week. Potted plants, except succulents and large house plants, should be watered each day.
Established vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees should be fed on a regular basis.

At the conclusion of my first year as high school principal in a small west Texas town, I was handed the proposed outline for the commencement program. It took only a glance to know that I didn’t like it. I informed the senior class sponsor that I would get back with her after making a few changes.

This has been another one of those weeks that kick you in the stomach, they are so unexpected. Dear Mr. Tom Gardner, husband of Deena, passed away last week while undergoing some tests. He was one of a kind - he had the most infectious laugh - seemed like it came from way down deep in his belly - and he enjoyed life!
