At around 9:06pm on Saturday, July 22, the Blanco Police Department received a call for a structure fire in the 1500 block of Hackberry Street, said Police Chief Milton Willmann. The emergency responders were at the scene of a roll-over accident on Kendalia Road at the time.
When the officer arrived, the house at that location was fully engulfed in flame.

GVTC communications is now connecting service to customers in Blanco. The company announced in September 2011 it would expand its fiber network throughout the community. The company is offering all of its services in Blanco including cable television, Internet, phone and security monitoring.
GVTC’s cable TV offers more than 275 channels of digital quality picture and sound, along with a huge selection of Video on Demand, Pay-Per-View and Music Choice.

At their special meeting on July 24, County Commissioners authorized County Judge Bill Guthrie to send a formal letter to the City of Blanco and the city of Johnson City requesting funding for dispatch services.
Commissioner James Sultemeier noted that, from January 2012 to June 2012, more than 70% of the calls received by county dispatchers were for the police departments of the two entities.

Ultra Quest 2012 conditioning camp wrapped up its final day on Thursday, July 19. For six weeks Panther athletes worked on their agility, speed, and strength through weight lifting, drills, and stretching. Survivors of the camp are pictured above.

The Blanco High School Varsity Cheerleaders, along with the Varsity Mascot, attended the Universal Cheerleader Association (UCA) Cheer Camp at the University of Texas in Austin from July 5th through the 8th, along with twenty-two other squads. July 16, 2012 – After a rapid-fire quiz bowl round against Penn State, a team of four students from Texas A&M University won first place in the 2012 National Academic Quadrathlon. Each quadrathlon consists of a written exam, oral presentation, lab practicum and quiz bowl. To win, undergraduate students answer questions and demonstrate skills in animal science, veterinary medicine and animal production.

Seventy-five years ago on July 20, 1937, Hilda Weireck became the bride of Vernon Schmidt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonewall, Tx. On July 29, 1962, their daughter Doris became the wife of Roy Phipps at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco Tx.
On July 14 a beautiful reception honoring both their 75th and 50th anniversaries was held at the Fellowship Hall of Trinity Lutheran in Blanco.

I promised you, the reader of this newspaper, to provide a schedule of the World War II trilogy the Blanco Pioneer Museum will be showing and here it is:
1. The Americans on D-Day showing will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and a second showing will be Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Baker Guns, located at 2250 N. US Highway 281, is offering concealed handgun license (CHL) training and testing on Saturday, August 4. The class begins prompty at 9am and lasts until 6 or 7pm that evening.
Most people thoroughly enjoy the fun day and class, says Amil Baker, owner of Baker Guns.
Since starting the classes in 2010, more than 125 local citizens have received their CHL through instruction at Baker Guns.

On August 1, 2012, the Blanco Library is hosting an all day open house for driver’s license renewal and claiming your money. Volunteers will help you renew your license online and find out if you have money as reported to the Secretary of State.
From 11:30am to 1pm, there will be a digital photography class.

Trinity Lutheran has been blessed by eighteen Confirmation Graduates, who went through two years of Biblical and Ecclesiastical Studies. The areas of study were the Bible, from Genesis through Revelation; Apologetics; the Catechism; faith of other religions as compared to Biblical Christianity; and church history. Parents attended each class with the Confirmands.

Denise Ann Wizbicki-Cole (Nisey), March 18th, 1964 - July 20th, 2012 of Blanco, TX. Went home to the Lord due to her battle with cancer on Friday July 20th, 2012 at the age of 48. Born in Ft. Dicks, N.J. to Richard Wizbicki and Angela Cacciola. She had a remarkable passion for new and young life.

Harvey Lee Thorp, 72, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at his home in Blanco after a long battle with COPD. Harvey was born on January 16, 1940 to George T. Thorp and Willie Mae Craig in Seguin, (Guadalupe County) Texas. He was preceded in death by both parents.
He spent his early childhood in Lockhart, but later lived in Austin where he attended public school.

It was over forty years ago. I was in my fleeting youth, toe headed, barefoot, and growing like a weed. After I ran bonkers around Grandpa and Grandma’s house about 20 times in the summer sun, I was desperate for a drink. I always went to the kitchen. The refreshing water that I drew from the tap of the kitchen sink at Grandma Hill’s house, I simply called “Blanco Water.” And at that time, the Blanco Municipal Water Supply was processed and purified straight out of the Blanco River.

Despite Spain’s dismal economic news last Friday, the DOW still ended up for the week at 12,822 this past Friday. The rain in Spain is falling mainly on Spain-as it were. Stocks rose for the second week in a row following better than expected corporate earnings and the largest weekly jump since June.

During its July 16 Board meeting in Johnson City, Pedernales Electric Cooperative distributed more than $132,000 in Community Development Partnership Program grants from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) to seven local organizations serving PEC members and communities.

AUSTIN — The Texas Governor’s Mansion is fully restored, Gov. and Mrs. Rick Perry announced last week. According to a July 18 governor’s office news release, the restoration was made possible by a $21.5 million appropriation by the Texas Legislature and a private fundraising effort led by first lady Anita Perry that raised more than $3.5 million from thousands of Texans.

Did you know there’s an “undo” button for buyers in a real estate contract? Paragraph 23 in the Texas Real Estate Commission residential sales contracts, the “termination option,” lets buyers pay a fee for the right to terminate their contract during a defined period of time. The termination option isn’t a required element of a contract to purchase a home but most buyers make it part of their offer.
