Buggy Barn Museum will be hosting a special preview this weekend on Saturday, August 4. Noted knife thrower Mike “Alamo” Bainton and other members of the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame will be performing.
The museum with its collection of vintage buggies, coaches, and more will be open (admission $5).

On Thursday, July 26, Mayor Chuck Homan, city employees, Chamber of Commerce board members joined GVTC President and CEO Ritchie Sorrells and GVTC representatives at their central office (CO) at 1241 Elm St. for an official ribbon-cutting and welcome to Blanco.

At their budget workshop on July 24, members of the governing body of Blanco reviewed a proposed budget with few changes from that of the previous year. With representatives of various organizations prepared to jump in with their requests, Mayor Chuck Homan reminded those in attendance that the meeting was not a public hearing but a workshop for council members to discuss how to allot available funds.

The board of trustees of the Blanco Independent School District convened a special meeting on Monday night, July 30, to consider hiring a candidate for principal at Blanco Middle School.
Bill Luna spoke with the school board about himself. The Blanco Lions Club will again sponsor a community effort to help the kids who will be starting school in a few weeks. The Blanco ISD will be providing a bus on Saturday, August 4. The bus will be parked on the square across from the bank (north side of the courthouse) from 9am to 3pm.

The 2012-13 school year will bring many changes for the students and staff of Blanco Elementary School—a school in the middle of a renovation project. But new principal Linda Romano sees it not so much a challenge as a gift and clear evidence that the city of Blanco supports its school system, to the tune of a $1million renovation.

Sonny McAfee defeated Angela Dowdle by 6,240 to 3,637 in the Republican primary for 33rd Judicial District Attorney.
No contest. The 33rd Judicial District’s District Attorney Republican race, so close in the general election, turned into a runaway in the July 31 runoff. Wiley “Sonny” McAfee disposed of Angela Dowdle, 63.5% to 36.5% in the four counties in the district.

David and Addice Hinchman are celebrating 50 years of marriage. They were wed on August 3, 1962, in El Paso, Texas. The Hinchmans currently reside in Blanco, Texas, and are enjoying the retired life together.

Texas Connects Coalition (TXC2) proclaims July 30 through August 3 to be “Broadband Across Texas Week
A nonprofit partnership between Austin Free-Net (Austin) and Technology For All (Houston, San Antonio and rural Texas), TXC2 will have more than 80 computer labs participating in this celebratory week. Visitors to the public computer labs and classrooms will be professionally instructed in how to use a computer, navigate the Internet safely, and search and apply for work.

Once again, we hit full capacity on the first day! Just over 90 children attended Sky VBS at Trinity Lutheran in Blanco where they learned that, “Everything is possible with God”(Mark 10:27). Seventy-six of these children were not members at Trinity. What a great community outreach. Fifteen scholarships were given and used for children who could not otherwise afford to attend.

The youth of Blanco Cowboy Church enjoyed their VBS Youth Horsemanship Clinics held in the Church arena on Thursday evening, July 19 and July 26. The young cowgirls and cowboys were taught all about horses, skills of saddling and unsaddling, how to mount, dismount, how to ride alone, and how to care for their mounts as well as skills of play day events such as poles and barrels.

Humph, they lie, too! Yessiree, Jesus said there would be false prophets in the world, and there already were some back when He walked the earth, as written in 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 4:1; Mark 13:22; Matthew 24:24; Matthew 7:15; and Matthew 24:11. You think you can discern a truthful prophet?

We would like to thank you and commend Bryan Edmondson for his warm, homespun, human interest article, "The Water Runs Deep in Blanco." It caused us to pause and be more thankful for the blessings of living in our beautiful Texas Hill Country. It also brought back memories of the Edmondson family and all the times we shared together...thank you!!

However, Europe saved the markets on Friday with promising news that leaders in Germany and France, have vowed to do everything they can to protect the Euro, throwing their weight behind a recent pledge by Europe’s central bank to take decisive measures to stop Europe’s debt crisis.

My Apology
I have never missed writing my column by a whole month before; however, due to the 4th of July I was lazy and thought I will do that next week. It never entered my mind what was about to take place and change our lives forever. My wife Patty had a car accident and 48 hours later had open-heart triple bypass surgery.

AUSTIN — In 2011, the Texas Legislature cut $4 billion from the public school budget for 2012-2013, and school districts across the state are still adjusting to the loss of funding. But there is a plan in place to pump about $1.7 billion into the budget for Texas public schools over the next biennium.

On July 31, 2012 at Manor High School the 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard, will say goodbye and good luck to approximately 400 Texas-based soldiers as they deploy to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The unit will deploy as Task Force Arrowhead, but once in Afghanistan will be broken up into multiple 12-person Security Force Assistance Teams.

Cans and bottles along with other debris were left along the approximately quarter-mile on River Run that is level with the river in the 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday evening. This is where everyone goes to swim, fish, and sit by the water. It is where the ducks hang out.
