Blanco County Commissioners met during the regularly held meeting on August 14, 2012. The Commissioners Court voted to enact a burn ban until the first Commissioners’ Court meeting scheduled for September. The Blanco County Commissioners’ Court conducted a special meeting on August 28, 2012. The Court considered approval of the preliminary plat of The Summit at Cypress Mill subdivision.

In a series of meetings, the Blanco Streetscape Committee has presented a new, conceptual design for the town’s historic square. Jack Twilley and Jim Raby prepared and presented a program to illustrate the designs and bring them to life in 3D renderings. Business and property owners on the Square, along with board members from the Blanco Chamber, attended a meeting on August 23.

In an expression of support for United States service members and their families, The Admiral Nimitz Foundation contributed $14,000 to Operation Military Embrace during a check presentation at Boot Ranch in historic Fredericksburg on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Splashing around in the Llano River is a nice way to spend a hot summer day, but LCRA hydrologists Steve Salinas’ and John Roberts’ daily forays into the water are more than play. Salinas and Roberts are among a handful of LCRA employees who spend their days measuring the amount of water flowing in the Colorado River and its main tributaries.

Violet (Smith) Eckermann Ramsour, 93, passed away in Blanco, TX, and entered her eternal home with her Lord and Savior on August 29, 2012. She was born on January 15, 1919 in San Antonio, Texas, to Austin Vivian Smith and Eula Nicholson Smith and was the youngest of 11 children.

The Dow edged up a little higher this past Friday as Fed Chief, Ben Bernanke stated he thinks there is still space for the Fed to step in to help the economy. The Dow closed at 13157.97 as it added 100.51 points, rising for the first time during the week.

The purpose of the Meet the Teachers Open House is to introduce you to our high school, meet with our teachers, and give you an opportunity to become involved with us. The Blanco volleyball team tallied 6 wins and only 1 loss in last week’s games. The squad played in the St. Mary’s Hall Tournament in San Antonio on Thursday, August 23rd. The first opponent was Texas Military Institute (TMI) of San Antonio, with Blanco fighting for the win of 25-17, 16-25, and 25-21.

The Blanco Youth Football League started the Fall 2012 season last weekend, with their Junior Varsity and Varsity teams facing the Lampasas Badgers.
