Veterans were honored on Saturday, November 10, at a parade around downtown put on by the American Legion post. Crowds lined the streets to wave and cheer on the veterans and parade participants.

As part of the Blanco Elementary School construction and renovation project, a cornerstone honoring the Masonic Lodge has been erected in front of the original Alamo-style school building. After jumping out to an early 21 to 7 lead, Blanco saw the Randolph Ro-Hawks score 25 unanswered points and then hold on for a 32 to 27 victory. Although the loss does not affect the Panthers’ play-off scenario, the defeat does drop Blanco to 6 and 4 on the season. Blanco opened the first half with a one-yard Sam Isenberg TD run and then an Isenberg to Colton Elrod 37-yard scoring pass.

GVTC has wrapped up its expansion into the city of Blanco. The completed project comes a little more than a year after the Smithson Valley-based communications company announced it would provide services to the Hill Country community, with an estimated population of 1,739. “Blanco has many positive attributes going for it and has been underserved with its communications services for too long,” GVTC Ritchie Sorrells, said.

Blanco County Commissioners Court conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. All four county commissioners were present. The meeting was a lengthy one, and there were a number of subjects presented for discussion. Blanco County Judge Bill Guthrie asked the court to consider a resolution supporting participation in a Blanco County Water Supply Task Force.

Blanco’s in the Hill Country Trail of Lights and Keep Blanco Beautiful is preparing for the celebration! Work is underway for the Best Christmas Spectacular Ever! Volunteers, including those from FCCLA and LEO Lions Club, are putting up lights in Bindseil Park on the Blanco Square. Payton DuVall came home to Blanco this past weekend from College Station and Texas A&M to go hunting with her grandfather on the family ranch just north of town. She has been hunting on the ranch since she was 12 years old and has had successful hunts for 8 straight years.

INDIANAPOLIS – Members of the Blanco FFA Chapter in Texas were one of 40 teams participating in the National FFA Environmental and Natural Resources Career Development Event (CDE). The event was held in conjunction with the 85th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The team, led by advisor Jason Marek, was awarded a Bronze emblem.

Light Night was celebrated at First Baptist Church of Blanco on Wednesday, October 31. Festivities included food, carnival games, trunk-or-treating, karaoke, and music. Abundant Grace, Trinity Lutheran, Ark Revival Ministries, Mt. Horeb Baptist, Blanco United Methodist, Young Life, WyldLife, and First Baptist sponsored the event.

The Blanco Good Samaritan Center will open in conjunction with the Blanco Market Day on the square Saturday. Volunteers will staff the store only (no food distribution) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store will also open Saturday, Dec. 8 (Christmas Market Day). The Blanco Good Samaritan Center helps people in need in Blanco and Blanco County.

This summer a gentleman phoned from Georgia seeking a home for a Bible. After hearing his story and doing some investigation about him, it was decided to honor his wishes to find a home for the Bible here in Texas. AUSTIN — America elected Democrat Barack Obama of Illinois to a second term as president on Nov. 6, with Republican challenger Mitt Romney of Massachusetts winning Texas and 23 other states. Unofficial election night returns for Texas posted by the secretary of state’s office show the Obama-Biden ticket with 3,294,440 votes (41.36 percent) and the Romney-Ryan ticket with 4,555,799 votes (57.20 percent) of nearly 8 million total ballots cast.

Each six weeks Blanco Elementary recognizes students who exemplify the guidance topic that has been taught throughout the six weeks. During October, students learned about drug awareness and how to keep their bodies healthy. Blanco Elementary students pictured below were recognized for demonstrating healthy and responsible habits! The habits include good hand washing, healthy eating habits, good PE participation, and being a role model to others when discussing healthy choices.

If your team’s defense forces their opponent to punt or turn over the ball on downs on each of their possessions, a win is much easier to tally. Combine this stifling defense with an offense that churned out 6 touchdown scores and the result is a shut out victory. The Blanco junior varsity used this game plan to defeat the Randolph Ro-Hawks 42-0 on Thursday, November 8.

The Blanco middle school football teams finished their seasons victoriously over the Jarrell Cougars. The 7th grade squad posted a 14-12 win with 2 touchdown runs by Will Granberg. The 8th grade team won 20-0 on 2 touchdown runs by Kailen Webster and one by Luis Elizondo. The 7th grade season record was 6-1-1.
