Sometime on November 24th or 25th, locks were cut on 24 or 25 storage units at the Blanco Mini-Warehouse Storage Unit facility on Highway 281 north of the square in Blanco. According to acting Police Chief Larry Feinstein, a renter of one of the units noticed that the lock on her unit had been cut with bolt cutters and that a number of things had been taken.

Last year, Buggy Barn Museum and Carriage Hills Ranch hosted the wildly successful first annual Christmas Concert and Chuck Wagon meal. The event returns again this year on Saturday, December 1, at Carriage Hills Ranch. The musical entertainment will be provided by Jean Prescott. There will be carriage rides, knife-throwing demonstrations at 4pm, a visit from Santa Claus at 5:30pm, and dinner is served up from the assembled chuck wagons at 6pm.

The Blanco County Commissioners Court held two meetings on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, and all four commissioners were present. The first meeting was held at 9:00 am and addressed the GovDeals bid of $2,625.00 for the 2002 green Crown Victoria. No action was taken at the present time. The second meeting opened at 10:30 am, also with all four commissioners present.

On December 1 and 15, from 6pm to 9pm, the LBJ Boyhood Home, located at 200 E. Elm Street in Johnson City, will be lamp lit, giving visitors an opportunity to experience family life at the Johnson's house as it was during the 1920s. This experience is a great contrast to the lights display of "Lights Spectacular"

After pulling out a last-minute victory this past Friday over Karnes City, Blanco claimed an area championship and picked up their eighth win of the season. The Blanco Panthers will advance to face East Bernard this coming Friday, with hopes of advancing to the Region IV Championship game. Blanco National Bank is sponsoring sled riding in Bindseil Park (next to Blanco City Hall on the Square) under the Byars Tree on Saturday, December 1, from 11am to 5pm. Sleds will be provided. The event is hosted by the Christmas in Blanco Association.

Blanco Lions and Leo Clubs are teaming together to make your Christmas Holidays a little warmer. We are having a coat drive for Blanco, Texas to ensure that everyone has a coat. Please drop off your gently used or new coats that are just hanging around. Drop off locations will be at the Baptist, Lutheran, and Methodist Churches. On December 15 at the Methodist Church from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM you and your children can come in to try on a coat.

This past year was an exceptional year for growth of weeds and invasive plants of all kinds. After several years of the drought we have been experiencing, we finally caught some rains this past winter and just about every weed seed out there germinated and grew this past summer. Record crops of thistles of all kinds were reported to be over-running native pastures. Brush species also took advantage of the soil moisture and flourished through the summer and fall.

The Hill County Law Enforcement Association (HCLEA) was formed about a year ago at the urging of then Blanco County Sheriff Bill Elsbury following the late sheriff’s vision to promote and encourage more communication and cooperation among the Sheriffs’ offices in the local judicial district. I was copying some pages from a music book on my printer at home, and suddenly was engulfed in the realization that I am so blessed with what God has given me! I have a home with a computer, printer, musical instrument, books, etc. I am so blessed! Compared to what some people are enduring right now, their homes washed away by hurricane Sandy, living in shelters and trying to go to their jobs, if their job is indeed functioning, and that’s if they have transportation.

The stock market closed at 13009.69 this past Friday, marking a 172.79 point jump because of news overseas and retail sales numbers from Black Friday. Stock traders were encouraged by positive economic news from Germany and China, two engines of global growth. Technology stocks soared after a few weeks of selling.

AUSTIN — To pass a budget bill is the Texas Legislature’s main job, but it is the 10-member Legislative Budget Board’s job to propose how much money the state may spend. At a Nov. 15 public hearing, the Board offered up a 2014-2015 two-year state budget capped at $78 billion per year, observing the constitutional spending limit.
