On the television we witness the lives portrayed by a screenwriter, or the drama-inflicted cast of a reality TV show; it has become a comfort to ease out of our own lives and slip into one portrayed before us. However, on a 41-foot sailboat there’s nowhere to hide from six younger siblings, and a TV is a luxury we don’t have.

As we begin chapter three, we know it is Jesus speaking to the apostle John, on the isle of Patmos, and He told him to write these things down. Does this letter sound like your church? Revelation 3:1-6 “1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have ...

A man went to see his psychiatrist and said he behaved badly and his conscience was bothering him. The doctor said, “Would you like to talk about ways in which you can strengthen your resolve and make better decisions?” The man said, “I was hoping you could give me something to weaken my conscience.” In Philippians 3:13-14, Paul the apostle said, “Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to wh ...

Rom 8:17-18 says, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” While we often quote the first part of verse 17, we rarely hear about the second half, “if so be that we suffer with Him.” We don’t normally get many “Hallelujahs” or “Amens” on that.

Blanco has a beautiful cemetery! The flags snap proudly in the breeze. The grave sites are well-kept. It is one of the few trash-free public areas in town. We can all be proud of our historic site. But, it doesn’t get this way by itself. The hard-working board members spend many hours making sure the cemetery is a place to be proud of.
