At the 2013 Homecoming game, Kristin Watt was crowned queen. The Friday, October 18 Varsity Football Game will be played against Jarrell at Jarrell. The Friday, October 25 game will be played against Lexington at Blanco. That night will also be Band Parent and Cheer Parent Night.

Blanco Police Chief Mike Ritchey and members of the governing body of Blanco presented Officer Ruben Marques with a Certificate of Merit at their regular meeting on October 8. According to Chief Ritchey, Officer Marques became suspicious of some young men attempting to sell gold coins at a store in Bulverde and took photos to send to the Bulverde Police Department.

The Blanco Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the members of the Board of Directors for 2014 – 2015, have been selected. In addition to the five newly elected Directors, an additional three members have been appointed to fill positions of Directors who had resigned with a one year left in their term.

Blanco County Commissioners held a Special Workshop Meeting on October 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City, Texas. On October 19 at 4pm, a replica of the Old Blanco County Courthouse will be donated to their Preservation Society. Vernon hand crafted the replica at the age of 96 and it has over 2300 pieces in it. It is being given with love by Vernon’s Family.

The first meeting of the 2013-2014 Woman’s Club was a great platform for the new year! We had two guests who graced us with their presence, Mary Nabor’s friend Pat and Tish Johnson’s daughter Elizabeth. Each department presented their topics and there was some discussion about department changes in the future (please see end of article for more information).

Every month, volunteers at the Blanco Good Samaritan Center feed and/or financially assist an average of 450 people across Blanco County, according to a food and special aid report presented at the October 9 business meeting. Sales proceeds from the center’s non-profit thrift store fund both food purchases for the food pantry and special aid to families seeking help with rent, utilities and other bills. Wednesday night, immediately after the homecoming pep-rally, Blanco students organized Blanco's first ever Fields of Faith. Fields of Faith is a peer-to-peer nationwide event that takes place every October at high school athletic fields and stadiums across the country. At Fields of Faith students invite their own classmates and teammates to hear fellow students share their testimonies, be challenged to read the Word of God and follow Jesus Christ.

I would encourage you to read 1Corinthians 13. Read it many times. It is only 13 verses. There is very much to learn from this short but powerful chapter in The Bible. The title of this series is based on verse 8a: “Love never fails”. We learn from this chapter that the greatest thing is love.

Gladys Norene Barr Reeves passed from this world on October 11, 2013 of congestive heart failure at the age of 93. She was born on December 27, 1919 in London, Texas and died in Blanco, Texas which was her home for most of her life. She eloped with her childhood sweetheart Homer Dorsey Reeves.

Kenneth Lee Crow, 70, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2013. He was born July 19, 1943 in De Leon, TX as the second son to Ira Crow and Pauline Blair Crow. Kenneth lived in DeLeon and, later, Waller, TX where he graduated high school. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from the University of Houston.

Mary Louise Thompson, born March 3, 1928, in Ohio County, Kentucky, and was blessed to live the last year of her life at Live Oak Medical Center Blanco, Texas. Her family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who shared their lives with her. She went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ Sunday morning, October 6th, 2013. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Clifford Fay and Mary Maybelle Coleman.

AUSTIN — A three-judge panel of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Oct. 3 rejected a case challenging the constitutionality of a 2011 Texas election law regulating deputy voter registrars. In a 2-1 ruling, the majority of the panel said the plaintiffs Voting for America Inc., Brad Richey, Penelope McFadden and Project Vote Inc.

The Blanco Panther volleyball team grabbed two district wins this past week toppling the Lago Vista Vikings, 3-1, on Tuesday, October 8 and blanking the Johnson City Eagles, 3-0 on Friday, October 11. Against the Vikings set scores were 25-22, 25-16, 13-25, and 25-18. Reagan Rogers hit 27 kills with Lexee Jenkins making 28 assists.

This past Friday marked the first time Schulenburg has traveled to Blanco to take on the Panthers. Although Blanco hoped to end a three game losing streak, it was the Shorthorns who returned home keeping their perfect district record intact, while the Panthers dropped to 2 and 4 on the season and 0 and 2 in district play. Blanco started the game with a bang, scoring on their first offensive play with Cove Chick sprinting 47 yards for the game’s first TD.

The 7th grade Blanco football team defeated the Schulenburg Shorthorns 36-8 on Thursday, October 10. Jesus Arteaga kicked off for the Panthers with Schulenburg starting on their own 40 yard line. The defense held firm with tackles by Eddie Calzoncit, Matthew Alcala, Justin Wardlow, Chris Osteguin, Zach Collins, Brandon Foth, Chance Horton, Corbin Diamond, and Tristan Fortner.

The 8th grade Panther football team shut out the Schulenburg Shorthorns 20-0 on Thursday, October 10. Following Isaiah Delgado’s kickoff for Blanco, the Schulenburg offense took over on their own 40 yard line. The Panther defense held the Shorthorns with tackles by Will Grandberg ,Griffin Wearden, Draven Diamond, Kelby Cox, Cade Smith, Peyton VanDyke, Jared Spriggs, and Wyatt Perkins.

A year ago I had the pleasure of volunteering to work during the First Annual Western Showcase that was sponsored by Carriage Hills Ranch and the Buggy Barn Museum right here in Blanco. Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show couldn’t have been any more fun than that. The three-day event featured knives, tomahawks, archery, atlatl, mounted action shooting, precision bullwhips, chuck wagon cooking, music, storytelling, buggy rides, old west costume judging, food booths, vendors and much, much more.
