The 2nd Annual Blanco Western Showcase, featuring the 12th Annual IKTHOF World Championship Knife and Tomahawk Competitions on November 1-3, 2013 brought in people from Russia, Germany, England, Canada, and all across the United States. It was a weekend full of talent and tons of fun. The Showcase took place on the grounds of Carriage Hills Ranch, and was also hosted by Buggy Barn Museum.

The Friends of Blanco State Park are starting an exciting project. They will be constructing a naturescape activity center in Blanco State Park. It will be the "first of its kind" in the TPWD park system. So just what is a Naturescape Activity Center or NAC? A NAC combines the fun activities of a playground with the wonders of nature.

The Blanco Quilters on the Square met for their monthly meeting on Saturday, November 9th. After the meeting, they participated in a "With Thanks and Giving" project by making pillowcases as part of the nation-wide "One Million Pillowcase Challenge". Since 2012, American Patchwork & Quilting has been hosting a "One Million Pillowcase"

The Blanco County Farm Bureau met for the annual convention on October 15 at the Johnson City High School. Over 100 members listened to an informative and inspirational talk from Dr. Rick Machen, Extension Livestock Specialist, about the importance of small cattle producers and the importance of teaching young consumers that the food on their table begins at a farm or ranch.

The Blanco County Association of Retired Teachers met on October 24th at the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The program entitled "Hopice: Myths and Mysteries" was presented by Connie Barron who works with the Hill Country Memorial Hospice. The BCARE members learned many things about the program including that the hospice program serves 13 counties in the area.

Noah Schwarzlose shot this 8 point buck on November 9, 2013 at the Bizzell Ranch in Joppa, TX (Burnet County) using the same gun that his Grandfather used to shoot his first deer 60 years ago. Noah is 9 years old and in the 4th grade at Blanco Elementary.

Brittani Roberts and Tanya Watson of “Save the Trophy Racks” just finished a 3Day 60 mile walk on November 1st-3rd to help put an end to breast cancer. Between the walkers, youth core and crew members 3.3 million dollars was raised for breast cancer research and prevention. In order to participate in the walk they had to raise $2300.00 each so they held a “Save the Trophy Racks” Softball Tournament on October 19th and would like to express their gratitude to the following for making it ...

Calendar update: Unfortunately our calendars have been delayed in shipping, but we hope to start sales at the end of November. Volunteers needed: Help out your community and make new friends by volunteering to work the front desk! The time slots available: Mondays 3-6pm and Thursdays 1-3pm. Sunny the Reading Dog is a real standard poodle who helps children practice their reading skills and will be visiting the library November 18th from 3:30-430pm.

All of the male Ashe Junipers (Cedar Trees) are loading up with their insidious pollen in preparation for their explosion of the reddish pollen dust to which so many folks are allergic. There is a solution to the problem listed below. The Ashe Juniper (Cedar Tree) berries that are a strategic part of the solution to the cedar pollen problem are definitely ready to be harvested.

In part one, we talked about the fact that God’s selfless, perfect love has been abundantly poured out in the Christian’s heart by the Holy Ghost (Rom 5:5), and that nothing can ever separate us from that love (Rom 8:35-39).

Opal Etta Sunderlin, 98, of Fredericksburg passed away on November 4, 2013. She was born September 30, 1915, in Olustee, Oklahoma, to Byron Alexander and Cyntha Triplett Alexander. Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 50 years, Russell Sunderlin, as well as seven siblings, four brothers and three sisters.

Billie Haning left this earth to see our Heavenly Father who was greeting her with open arms on Saturday, November 9, 2013. She was born on April 7, 1938 in Dallas, Texas. She was not only a wife, mother, sister, granny and friend; she was a former teacher's assistant and a waitress, but mostly a full time mother and wife.

Dennis Ovid Webster, Blanco, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 6, 2013. Dennis was taken from this world in a jobsite accident. As a student, I want to know more about the security system installed at my school. It’s not clear how to refer to it. In some cases school authorities call it video and in other just still shots. What about audio, color, date, time, location, number of devices? As to the school policies regarding the use of it, we are told that students and parents are not allowed to see what the camera registers; only school authorities and attorneys may see.

The Blanco Panthers completed the regular season by winning their fourth straight game this past Friday night as they defeated the visiting Randolph Ro-Hawks 33 to 7. The win guarantees the Panthers a winning record for the season as they currently stand at 6 and 4. In district play, Blanco finishes in a three way tie for 2nd place with a record of 4 and 2.

The 7th grade Panther Football Team remained undefeated, beating the Kerrville Peterson Middle School “C” team 30-0 on Tuesday, November 5. The Panthers finished with a 9-0 season record and 5-0 in district play. Luling 26-6, San Antonio Christian 14-0, Comfort 30-12, Rogers 36-13, Schulenburg 36-8, Jarrell 28-14, Lexington 22-14, Johnson City 30-6, and Peterson Middle School 30-0.

The 8th grade Panther Football Team finished strong with a 36-6 win over the Randolph Ro-Hawks on Thursday, November 7. The Panthers posted a 6-2 season record and a 4-2 district record. Luling - Cancelled Lightning, San Antonio 8-0, Comfort 20-0, Rogers 8-18, Schulenburg 20-0, Jarrell 14-0, Lexington 14-24, Johnson City 22-20, and Randolph 36-6.

The Blanco Junior Varsity Football Team soundly defeated the Randolph Ro-Hawks 43-0 on Thursday, November 7. The squad finished their schedule with an 8-2 season record and 5-1 district record. The team’s only losses were 16-19 to Canyon Lake and 0-14 to Schulenburg. The JV outscored their opponents 302 to 127.

The Blanco Panther Volleyball team completed an awesome season winning Bi-District against the Stockdale Lady Brahmas on Tuesday, November 5, but falling to the East Bernard Brahmarettes in the Area playoff round. The Panthers swept Stockdale 3-0 with set scores (25-14), (25-17), and (25-22). Reagan Rogers made 21 kills, 3 aces, and 14 digs for Blanco.

Over the Veterans Day weekend I drove into San Antonio with a friend to listen to 93-year old Gail “Hal” Halvorson tell a story about two sticks of chewing gum that changed his life and the lives of countless others following World War II. As a young pilot Halvorson had flown cargo planes into Berlin during the infamous Soviet blockade of 1948-1949.
