On Saturday, February 1st, three bands and dozens of local businesses are joining forces to offer a donation-based benefit supporting Blanco’s Good Samaritan Center at the Barn at Bell Springs, in Dripping Springs. The Center provides members of the community with food and clothing. When available, cash assistance is also given to families in need to help with paying utility bills, rent, gas, propane, and medicine. Blanco County Commissioners and Blanco County Judge Bill Guthrie conducted a Special meeting on Tuesday, January 28th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Commissioners Courtroom of the Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City, Texas. Judge Guthrie called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. In pursuant with a recent motion to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of each County Commissioner Meeting, the Pledge was recited.

Icy conditions on the morning of Tuesday, January 28, created hazardous road conditions and closed Blanco ISD schools. Blanco’s Emergency Services responded to multiple traffic accidents along US Highway 281 and RR 165.

At their monthly meeting in December, P&Z decided to hold an open meeting to give the citizens of Blanco the opportunity to voice their opinions on topics dealing with future city growth, zoning and ordinances. The City of Blanco recently annexed property adjacent to the city limits and also purchased over 100 acres east of the sewage treatment plant, thus enlarging the size of our community.

Sanctity of life means the holiness or sacredness of life. Our God is a God of life. In Acts 17:25, it says that God is the giver of life. In Revelation 4:11, it says that God created all things for His pleasure. Jesus has many titles, some of which are: the Light of life, the Resurrection and the life, the Bread of life, The Way, the Truth, and the Life, and the giver of Abundant Life.

On Wednesday January 22, 2014, Joel Gonzalez, of Blanco, TX, passed away in San Antonio after a well fought battle with cancer. He was born in Mexico on January 17, 1944 to Ruperto and Vicenta Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hortencia, brother Lionel and sisters, Cecilia, Yolanda, and Martha Asidalia. He is survived by his daughters Letty and Lulu Gonzalez and his sister Petra Nunez.

The Comfort Bobcats and the Johnson City Eagles became the most recent Panther victims as Blanco defeated Comfort, 45-37, on Tuesday, January 21 and then sank Johnson City, 74-36, on Friday, January 24. The Panthers now stand 4-0 in District 27 2A followed by Comfort, 3-1, Ingram 2-2, Lago VIsta 1-3, and Johnson City 0-4. Against Comfort Kyle Sauceda led the Panthers scoring 12 points.

The Lady Panthers added two more wins to their district record with big victories over the Comfort Deer on Tuesday, January 21 and the Johnson City Lady Eagles, Friday, January 24. In the 50-20 win over the Deer Meaghen Seales led the Panthers firing in 14 points. Reagan Rogers scored 10 points, with Lexee Jenkins adding 9.

Reagan Rogers has been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association, 2A, All-State Volleyball team and the Texas Sports Writers Association 3rd Team Volleyball All-State Team. Reagan was also recognized as the District 27-2A MVP, and the San Antonio Express-News 2A-A MVP. Reagan finished the season with 851 kills, averaging 7 kills per set.
