The Blanco County Commissioners Court held a Special meeting on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting was held in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City, Texas. All four Blanco County Commissioners and Blanco County Judge Bill Guthrie attended the meeting. Blanco EMS Director Mike West is a jack of all trades. In addition to answering calls in the ambulance and doing paperwork, he does maintenance work and has even had to clean the bathrooms at the Blanco facility. During Christmas week he worked straight through till the day after Christmas, spending two hours doing all his Christmas shopping.

On the evening of February 23 at 11:00 pm, Blanco County Dispatch received a call of a reckless driver on US 281. Deputy Darrin Ellis and Sergeant Thomas Broyles of the Blanco County Sheriff’s responded to the call and located the suspect vehicle on the side of US 281 at the US 290 intersection.

On Saturday, February 22, The Blanco Historic Cemetery Association held its Annual Member Meeting at the Blanco Library. The Directors were all present and a quorum was established. This Thursday, February 27th, a state certified representative will be available to help people navigate and register on HealthCare.gov. They will be available between 5 and 8pm in our small conference room for free for anyone needing assistance or information. The 1040 tax forms have come in! Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup takes place every year beginning March 1st and continuing through May 31st. More than 3 million volunteers across the USA participate in this, America’s largest, improvement program. In Blanco, the Keep Blanco Beautiful Trash-Off will be held Saturday April 12. More than 100 volunteers from the Blanco community roam the roads, paths, waterways and ditches collecting litter.

The quarterly Court of Honor for BSA Troop 497 was held February 17 at the Blanco United Methodist Church. Attending were parents, family, and friends of the Boy Scouts along with a few Cub Scouts and parents. The Cub Scouts are WEBELOS who will be Crossing Over from Cub Scout to Boy Scouts in May.

Born in Montreal, Quebec in 1937, Francois Dubuc started painting in oils at the age of 13 and has since delved in all kinds of artistic endeavours. Parallel to oil painting, he started doing sculpture in both Siporex and Soapstone in the ‘70’s. I encourage you to read Luke 16:19-31 carefully. The American Church is in crisis. In 2008, a Pew Forum poll found that only 17% of Americans believed you must be born again to enter Heaven. Yet, around 75% of Americans claim Christianity as their religion. Other polls show that a much bigger percentage of Americans believe in Heaven than in Hell.

Thaddeus Charles “Thad” McCormick III, 70 of Kendalia, Texas passed away on Monday, February 17th, in a Boerne hospital. At his request there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Thad was born in Dallas, Texas on May 2, 1943, to Dr. Thaddeus Charles McCormick Jr. and Geraldine (Fogle) McCormick.

Christopher J Byars was born on September 22, 1982 the oldest by 2 minutes of twins. He was born in Houston, Texas and moved to Blanco when he was 6 years old as his Dad had gotten a job at Kelly AFB and saw an opportunity to raise his kids away from Houston.

Sister Isadore M. Jackson Upshaw Yett was the third child born to Willie and Manuel Jackson in Blanco, Texas on April 9, 1915. She received her childhood education at Peyton Colony School and then furthered her education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She lived in Peyton Colony all her life. Sister Yett dedicated her life to Christ as a young girl.

Six members of the Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA participated in the annual public speaking competition at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. With three members competing in both the junior and senior divisions, the local FFA chapter was well represented. The Blanco FFA and Jr. FFA competed at the East Central Livestock Judging Contest this past Saturday. My wife and I enjoy taking our three granddaughters to a certain fast food restaurant on a certain day each week. When their parents are able to join us we enjoy the occasion even more. We were recently engaged in our little weekly ritual and had just placed our order when a couple came into the restaurant with their young daughter in tow.
