Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. There is evidence that women’s groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War in remembrance of the Confederate Dead. Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5,1868 and first observed May 30,1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

I’ve recently begun a new franchise, with a corporation interested in good health, by eating more fruits and vegetables, with a product that helps us get more in our daily diet. So I’ve been researching the benefits of eating different fruits and vegetables. I didn’t realize many of them actually increase our immune systems, kill cancer stem cells, lower blood pressure and are natural anti-inflammatories!

The manager of a large office asked a new employee to come into his office. "What is your name?," was the first thing the manager asked. "John," the new guy replied. The manager scowled. "Look, I don't know what kind of a namby-pamby place you worked at before, but I don't call anyone by their first name!

Editor, We have been blessed to be able to live on one of the most natural and scenic roads in Blanco County. I am referring to Middle Creek Rd. I manage a large ranch on this road and also own 15 acres on the corner. Since the road was paved I have seen an influx of; traffic, noise, roadside trash, large semi-trucks, abandon vehicles, poaching, fences being destroyed by reckless drivers who flee the scene, and suspicious individuals passing through.

Editor, Taxpayers should be aware that an 80’ clear span bridge is proposed and currently being engineered to replace the low water crossing on Middle Creek Road (CR 410). This bridge proposal is being propelled by Commissioner Paul Granberg based on the argument of a “safety” improvement. This bridge is costing $68,000 just for the engineering work and is estimated between $300,000 and $500,000 in construction cost from our hard earned county revenues.

Taxes and fees such as the gas tax and fees on drivers’ licenses go into the state highway fund to pay for transportation, but for almost 80 years, Straus explained, some of that money has helped fund agencies that are not directly related to trans ...

You have the old “Would you jump off a bridge if…” talk. You teach them about the dangers of gateway activities that lead to serious jail time.
