Blanco Elementary would like to thank Lowe’s and the community for their support. All of these supplies were received through the collection of cash register receipts from Lowe’s. Supplies include signs to be used around campus as needed, playground equipment for the students, incentives to be used for good behavior/attendance, pencils, as well as many other items.

During the summer months there is an increased need for donors to step forward and help sustain the community blood supply. High school and college students make up a quarter of the blood donors in our area. When schools are out on break we have less donations but the same patient need.

The Blanco County Commissioners held a Regular meeting on August 12, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Blanco County Courthouse in Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas. All four County Commissioners and Blanco County Judge Bill Guthrie attended the meeting. The Regular meeting opened as the Court recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

An Eagle Court of Honor was held for Kendall Hartmann at Blanco United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 9th. Kendall is the son of Larry and Tricia Hartmann, and he has three older brothers. His brothers are Todd, Tim, and Taylor Hartmann. Kendall attained the rank of Eagle Scout on June 19th when he successfully passed his Board of Review.

It could be argued that never in history has so much been spent on the advertising and purchasing of any merchandise, with so little knowledge of the product, as there has been on the vitamin and supplement industry. Billions are spent annually, by the consumer, wholesalers, etc. without anyone REALLY knowing the difference between a synthetic and a truly natural vitamin or the difference between an organic versus inorganic material.

Astronomers and mathematicians of centuries past have attempted to calculate the number of stars in the heavens. Hipparchus, a Grecian (190-120 BC), gave the number of stars as 1,026. Ptolemy of Egypt (85-165 AD) suggested 1,056 stars. Kepler, a German (1571-1630), after which the Kepler satellite is named, gave the number as 1,006 stars.

Ephesians 5:2 says, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor.” Two weeks ago we talked about the wonderful fact that Jesus is our intercessor. He stands in the gap for us as Christians.

What makes us think we are not included in the blessings and curses found in God’s Word? I’ve heard preachers say what God said in the Old Testament does not apply to us living now, since Christ came and died for our sins. I have to disagree. That just can’t be, because in the Old Testament we see how God sent His Word to the prophets to prophecy Jesus would come, and He did.

Lorraine Chambers, 67 of Blanco passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. A memorial service was held on Friday, August 8, 2014 in the Southern Oaks Baptist Church in Kerrville, Texas at 3:00 PM. Lorraine was born on January 27, 1947 in Safford, Arizona to Lon and Evelyn (Johnson) Moore.

Ella Josephine Woodruff passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the age of 90 in Blanco, Texas. She was born on July 25, 1924 to Homer and Bertha (Doyle) O’Neal in Kenova, West Virginia. She was a resident of Tow and Kingsland since 2009 coming from El Paso, Texas. Ella married Hiram Woodruff on June 10, 1947 in New Braunfels, New Jersey. She served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. Season ticket sales for the 2014 Varsity Football season will go on sale on Monday, August 18th for renewals only until Friday, August 22, 2014. Initial ticket sales will begin on Monday, August 25th until Friday, August 29th. The cost will be $20 for adults and $12 for students (four home games).
