Blanco's Recycle Center
Wednesday, March 16, 2011 • Posted March 18, 2011 9:49 AM

Keep Blanco Beautiful has other duties besides keeping Bindseil Park and the plants on the square beautiful. We try to help support and promote these other places and events. Be sure you mark the Trash Off Day on April 2 and the County-wide Household Hazardous Waste Clean-Up, April 16, on your calendars. You will be seeing more articles in the paper and posters around town regarding these events. If you are interested in helping with one or both of these days, please call Retta Martin at 833-4720.

We have another very important location right here in Blanco, which many are not aware of. Have you ever seen our Recycle Center? If not, you are missing a great project in Blanco. We can really congratulate Commissioner Paul Granberg and his crew for the great job they do keeping it clean and organized. You can go there 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. It never closes. Blanco citizens are doing a terrific job of recycling and it continues to grow each year. Paul said 500 tons were collected last year and he looks for that number to go up this year. Just think how you are helping save the landfills from thousands of pounds a week of recyclable material – just from Blanco County!

Once you start saving and see what all you can recycle, it is hard to just throw those items in the garbage. You will see different bins for each category, including cardboard, all paper including newspapers, aluminum cans, steel cans, glass, sorted #1 plastic, #2 plastic, and #3 through 7 rigid plastic in one bin. There’s also a tank to dispose of motor oil and drums for filters at this location. You may also drop off large steel items in the yard on the corner of Blanco Ave. and Jones Ave. These include large appliances, such as refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, etc. If you are in doubt of items, call the yard number: 830-833-1077. They are open Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm.

The Recycle Center location is on Jones Ave., just off Blanco Ave. You turn off US 281 at the new light (between Super S and Security Bank) on Blanco Ave. Go to the first street on your left (Jones Ave.) and turn. You will see the recycle center to your left.

Let’s all pull together and make Blanco one of the best towns in Texas for recycling!
