Mark your calendars for April 16 and gather your household hazardous materials as well as tires, paint, and large household trash items. Spread the word to friends and neighbors and keep an eye on your local newspaper for a more detailed event flyer with a complete list of items accepted at the event.
This year, Blanco County, thanks in part to a grant provided by the Capital Area Council of Governments, will offer a county-wide household hazardous waste collection event at the IESI Transfer Station located at 377 Transfer Road, Johnson City, Texas. The event will be from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on April 16, 2011. Household quantities of tires (up to 24 inches), lead acid and rechargeable batteries, electronics (including cell phones, telephones, computers, and televisions), motor oil, latex and oil based paint, antifreeze, and household chemicals will be accepted. Household chemicals include cleaning products, automotive maintenance, and home and garden supplies. In addition, large household trash items including construction debris, carpet, and old appliances will be accepted. Although volunteers are taking the majority of items free-of-charge, any citizens disposing of tires will be asked to make a small contribution of $1.00 per tire. In addition, tax-deductible donations will also be accepted.
Community involvement is an important key to keeping Blanco County communities clean and safe. If you are interested in making a tax-deductible donation, volunteering or have questions, contact Tessa Doehrman at 830-868-6082 or Paul Granberg at 830-833-1077.
