Blanco Cubs Live Aboard USS Lexington
Wednesday, March 30, 2011 • Posted April 1, 2011

Eleven members of the Blanco Cub Scout pack 497 and their families experienced the live aboard program on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 26. The group arrived in Corpus Christi around 1:30 along with about 200 other scouts and family members.

To go aboard the ship, they had to get wrist bands and carry their sleeping bags and baggage on board. The men and boys were taken to the male berthing area while the women and girls were led to the female berthing area. After everyone had their things stored, they could explore the ship from the engine room to the flight deck and the bridge. Everyone in a uniform had to keep their shirt tucked in, shoe laces tied, caps on straight and were expected to practice their best manners.

Everyone was given the chance to watch the red flag movie in the MEGA Theater. They had game rooms to entertain the scouts and they all went through the chow line and bunked in the original crew quarters. They were given an unforgettable flag ceremony, history of the ship and genuine ghost stories.

The crew aboard the ship was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. It was an unforgettable experience that the boys are still talking about.
