PTO Walk-a-Thon Raises Funds for Shade
Wednesday, April 6, 2011 • Posted April 7, 2011

The elementary parking lot was the place for an exciting new fundraiser, hosted by PTO, on Thursday, March 10. All grades participated during their regular scheduled physical education time. The entire parking lot was closed off for the day and the activities began at 8:10 sharp. The PTO moms and school staff kept the water and fruit coming throughout the day. The popcorn lady, Kristen Kunkel, was able to keep it coming all day and put a smile on a lot of tired faces. The weather and atmosphere for the day were perfect and all the kids were amazing.

Two students really did some hard work getting sponsors and it paid off; they are the $100 Visa card winners for the first annual walk-a-thon. Marissa Ruiz, a kindergartener, and Mitchell Barnett, a third grader, are our winners. There were even prizes for the parent, teacher, and class who recruited the most sponsorships. Ms. Jennifer Hernandez and her kindergarten class were the winners! Ms. Hernandez will receive a massage, compliments of Amy Elrod, and the class had a wonderful pizza party with principal Ms. Sue Ann Rieninger and the Blanco Panther. The parent sponsorship prize, a $50 gift certificate to Uptown Blanco, went to Ms. Cydney Schwarloze. Thank you for your participation.

The prizes were awarded last Thursday, March 31, with much pomp and circumstance, thanks to Ms. Mollberg’s very talented fourth and fifth grade music students and the Blanco Panther.

PTO is happy to report that this fundraiser netted over $9,300! We were working towards a shade for the large playground at the elementary and we have made almost enough for the equipment itself, but have to figure out how to get it installed.

A huge thank you to all in the community and staff at the elementary campus who helped make this event such a great success.
