Blanco Softball Improves to 3-1 in District

The Lady Panthers tallied district wins over Harper and Comfort last week to improve their record to 14-11 overall and 3-1 in District 8AA.

On Tuesday, March 29, Blanco defeated Harper 15-0 in four innings. The game started slowly with no runs scored after two innings, but the Panthers found their bats in the 3rd, scoring ten runs in the inning. With Chandler Ashley, Callie Culton, and Meaghen Seales filling the bases, Kelsey Schwind hit a double to send them all home for runs. Seven more runs were scored on bunts and singles. Five more runs were made in the 4th inning to end the game.

Taylor Guinn hit three singles with one RBI to lead the team. Meaghen Seales hit two singles and had to RBI. Chandler Ashley scored three runs, with Hillary Calzoncit adding three RBI.

Meaghen Seales pitched for the shut-out win, giving up only four hits, no walks, and two strike-outs.

On Friday, April 1, the ladies beat Comfort 2-0. In a defensive battle, the score remained 0-0 until the 5th inning when Blanco scored a run by Angel Williams on a sacrifice grounder by Callie Culton. Hillary Calzoncit added a second run in the 6th inning after hitting a single down the first base line.

Mishelle Calzoncit led the team with a single and a double. Other singles were hit by Deanna Sevilla, Leslie McClinton, and Meaghen Seales. Callie Culton pitched for the shut-out victory, giving up only five hits with three walks and five strike-outs.

The Lady Panthers will play their next district game at home on Friday, April 8, against Juction, who are the district leaders. Game time is set for 6:00pm.
