Who’s Who in the Blanco Historic Cemetery?
Part 8 in a series
Wednesday, April 13, 2011 • Posted April 13, 2011

Did you notice the announcement of the annual cemetery meeting?  It is April 25 which is on a Monday.  The meeting will be held at the library from 6 pm to 8 pm.  Bring your questions, comments, and concerns!

This week we will take a look at the B section in the old part of the cemetery.  Section number B14 is bordered at the back by Jones Ave.  There are three places in sections B13 and B14 where, according to the actual section divisions, a husband and wife would be separated.  That just doesn’t seem right.  Where that occurs, the spouse is listed in section B with a notation that he or she is actually located in section C.

Back Row (5):  Floyd E. Havins (1916-1976); Hiram H. Havins (1902-1983); Mary L. Havins (1911-2004).

Row 4:  Helen Blackburn (1920-2002)(Section C); Harry Blackburn (1913-1998); William I. Blackburn (1917-2000); Henry C. Blackburn (1943-1975) US Army, Vietnam.

Row 1:  Ronnie Lee Dotson, Sr. (1954-2003); Leona Sorrells (1917-1939); Jasper Lee Sorrells (1907-1939)(Leona and Jasper share a handmade tombstone. The inscription is worn with age.); Clifford E. Sorrells (1918-1921); David M. Evans (1841-1923); Dixie M. Sorrell (1907-1931); Marion Eddie Sorrell (1905-1958) WWII.

In section B13 there are only 4 rows.  In the back row:  Ed F. Dotson (1935-1955); E. L. Dotson (1906-1982); Joseph E. Dotson (1882-1957); Maud D. Dotson (1886-1959); Henry F. Sorrell (1903-1983); Alice Evans (1878-1957); William F. Sorrells (1872-1935); Delphia T. Sorrells (1874-1958).

It is very interesting to report these names.  Does anyone know why, on some tombstones, we have the surname “Sorrell” and on others “Sorrells”?  They are grouped together as if they are all one family, but the names are spelled differently.
