Dear Editor,

I received two emails this week about the school board. I wasn’t sure how either one of them got my email address. However, the first one was a candidate (1st Candidate) introduction and why they were running. The 2nd (2nd Candidate) email was from a relative of the other candidate who seemed to be upset about the “Good Ole Boy” comments going around. I believe it is important to vote in every election, but I also believe it is very important to know who and what I am voting for. My wish is to know what the candidate stands for and what they hope to achieve while holding a position at any level.

This 1st candidate has taken the time to speak with me on several occasions. The 2nd candidate seems to concern me for this reason. The individual who sent me the email about the relative was upset that their candidate was not included in the newspaper article ran on April 13.  I was not concerned over that at the time, as sometimes things can be omitted in articles for space and story reasons.

I decided to go to the Chamber to the “Meet the Candidates” on April 16. I really wanted to give both a fair chance. Guess what, the 2nd Candidate never showed, but the 1st Candidate was there the whole time and was again willing to listen to my concerns. I have yet been able to get any info on what the 2nd Candidate stands for, other than they are honest and nice and have relatives that have served on the past Councils. So I ask you, if you have children in the Blanco school system, do you think it can be improved? Do you think the money can be better managed? Do you think more importance needs to be put on academics? Then ask the hard questions. Don’t just vote for someone because they were raised in Blanco and nice. I am not saying both Candidates are not equally qualified for the position, just not comfortable with the lack of access we have.

I moved into Blanco County 7 years ago and I am just as passionate about this town and county as anyone who was born and raised here. You are paying taxes to the school system, which is your highest tax entity, so you should worry about who is representing you. I am not endorsing either Candidate at this time. I just want to give both of them a chance to tell me why they should be on the Board and what they will do for me, other than feeling important on being a Board Member.

Please, please ask all candidates for accountably no matter what party or who they are related to. All I want is to make Blanco a great town and county.
