Checking for building permits. There are several different permits you will need to look into. A professional licensed contractor will know most of them but if you’re doing the work yourself you’re going to need to check with the city to find out what permits are required to add onto to your existing home structure. Such things as plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and zoning permits will need to be researched.
Equipment. With a new remodel and add on you’re going to need special equipment to dig, lay cement, etc. If you hire a contractor they will take care of all this; if not then you will have to find out where you can rent or buy machines that you will need to do the job.
Hiring an architect. Along with hiring a contractor to do the work for you, you also have the option of finding an architect to design the kitchen space for you. If you’re not great with designing the layout of a room an architect can help you figure out how to best us the space that you have. They are however sometimes costly so be sure to check your budget first. Some contractors are experienced enough to help you here as well.
Budget. Sometimes our dreams are bigger than our budget so it’s always a good idea to make your plans up and see how they fit with your allotted budget. More than likely you will need to make some changes here and there.
Adding a kitchen or a bathroom during a remodel takes a lot of work and planning so make sure that it’s something you really want to do because once you start there’s no turning back. Adding a kitchen and bathroom will definitely help add value to your home or give you the extra space you are looking for so it’s a great investment to make if you’ve got the time and the money to do it.
