Blanco Softball Captures Bi-District Win

Taking advantage of well-placed bunts, aggressive base running, and solid pitching, the Lady Panthers outscored the Sonora Lady Broncos 16-1, on Friday, April 29, in the Bi-District match-up played in Fredericksburg.

The Panthers scored six runs in the second inning to lead 8-0. At the top of the fifth inning, leading 9-1, the Blanco team’s bats exploded and seven runs were scored.

Leslie McClinton placed three excellent bunts for three runs and two RBI. Alex Gustafson hit a single, a bunt, and a sacrifice bunt to score one run and two RBI. Callie Culton hit a double and a triple for two runs and two RBI, Mishelle Calzoncit blasted a double, a sacrifice bunt and three RBI, and Kelsey Schwind smashed a three-run, over-the-fence homerun. Callie Culton pitched for the win, tossing six strike-outs and giving up only three hits and one walk.

On Saturday, April 30, the Panthers and Broncos met again for game 2 of the best 2 of 3 series. The Panthers secured the Bi-District title with a 12-7 win.

Leading 10-2 at the end of the fifth inning, the Panthers fought back a Bronco five-run rally to keep the lead.

Callie Culton and Meaghen Seales pitched for the Panthers. Angel Williams hit two singles and a double for two runs and four RBI. Meaghen Seales added two singles, two runs, and two RBI. Hillary Calzoncit smacked a single for a run and a RBI.

The Lady Panthers will clash with the Clyde Lady Bulldogs in an Area play-off best 2 of 3 game series beginning Friday, May 6, at 7:00pm at Dublin High School. The second game is scheduled for 5:00pm, Saturday, May 7, at Lampasas High School. Game 3, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes following the conclusion of game 2.
