Library Volunteers Honored with Luncheon
Wednesday, May 11, 2011 • Posted May 12, 2011

The volunteers and staff at the Blanco Library were treated May 3 to a very special program. Jim and Linda Nash opened their lovely home to library staff for this annual “thank you” event, this year hosted by the Friends of the Blanco Library. As everyone gathered together, librarian, Crystal Spybuck surprised the group with her thoughtful program. This year’s theme was “Libraries Plant the Seeds of Kindness” and Crystal selected a flower or plant that reminded her of each person. She explained how the plant’s characteristics matched those of the staff member. She then presented everyone with a gift of a candle and a packet of wildflower seeds with the help of Ruth Holleman.

Shirley Beck, President of the Board of Trustees, reminded all that everyone’s dedicated service has made the Blanco Library a model for rural community libraries. This was demonstrated when an international group of librarians chose Blanco as part of its U.S. visit to various libraries including the Library of Congress and the University of Texas Library.

Following the program, the attendees enjoyed a fabulous lunch and chance to share stories about the programs and activities of the past year as well as plans for the future.
