I, fortunately or unfortunately, live very close to Blanco High School. Fortunately – I can walk to football games and, if I can’t make the game in person, I know the result of every play and touchdown by the roar of the crowd. Unfortunately – when the wind blows (and it has done this a lot lately) loose papers and debris wind up at my fence.
Our society is quite concerned about privacy. Medical records are closely held. We are warned about divulging our social security/driver’s license numbers. At University, grades are not divulged to parents without student’s permission. Blanco High School Students – be warned! As you clean out your lockers and dispose of papers some of them wind up on my fence. I know who is failing Algebra, who can’t pass a science test and who needs help writing a complete sentence. Being a retired Middle School math teacher, I have been tempted to call parents and volunteer to tutor some of you. Shame on me for not following through. My effort might have improved some student’s scores. We should all do our part to improve our schools’ performance by helping out whenever we can. Students who are proud of their work take it home!
