Plan to “Chic It Up” at New Shop
Wednesday, May 25, 2011 • Posted May 27, 2011

Mary Jo Isenberg is working on a new concept with the current economic climate in mind. As they say, if Mary Jo’s behind it, it’s going to be great. In addition to hot dogs from Frankly Speaking, she’s selling gift and decor items without the high price at Chic It Up, located south of Blanco.

“Many people see junk at garage sales, yard sales, and flea markets,” Mary Jo says, “things you would just toss in the trash.” Mary Jo, on the other hand, sees it from a different perspective and has been buying items, fixing them up, blinging them up, and giving them new life.

“It’s an inexpensive, go-green, recycle bling store,” she exclaims, and a way to have fun in this economy.

Chic It Up offers a wide variety of unique items teapots blinged up, furniture reupholstered, jewelry made by hand, and more. It depends on what catches Mary Jo’s eye as she travels around to sales all over the region. She recently found a magazine holder at a garage sale. She took it to the Blanco FFA, who sanded and primed it “It’s all who I know in this town,” Mary Jo comments. She then attached buttons and put diapers in it. “Now it’s a diaper holder!”

You’ll find Chic It Up next to Frankly Speaking, on US 281 south of Blanco. It’s across the highway from Petersen Tire, before you get to Yett Park.

“I’ll make you a weiner, then you can buy a gift for your friend,” Mary Jo says. “You can not only eat, but you can say, ‘it’s Aunt Martha’s birthday, I’ll get her something fun.’ “

The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 5pm. If you’re looking for that special item, give Mary Jo a call at 512-689-4128; she’ll keep her eyes peeled while she shops for the next item to recycle.
