A business man watched a Swiss clockmaker carve a beautiful ornate cuckoo clock. The work was precise but slow. The business man said, “You will never make money that way.” The clockmaker said, “I’m not making money, I’m making the finest cuckoo clocks in the world.” The business man was seeing one thing and the clockmaker another.
God sees the hidden person of the heart (I Peter 3:4). A great deal of effort and money is often dedicated to pleasing the human eye. The right clothes, hair, skin, and dimensions and you have the perfect man or woman. When a king was chosen for Israel Samuel was reminded of this truth, “...God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (I Samuel 16:7). Living in the true spiritual attributes of the Kingdom of God is to be more desired than the enhancement of the outward person. With love, grace, truth, holiness, peace, faith, and hope we clothe ourselves with that which makes for true beauty.
God hears the voice that worships Him and comes to Him in prayer. By the world’s standard one might not posses a beautiful voice, but if we approach God in worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24) we are assured that such a voice is beautiful to God. Voices that speak in purity and with wisdom and understanding produce a very pleasing sound to God. A voice may have a pleasing tone or able to hit every note of a song, but if used for gossip and obscenities it is displeasing to the Creator.
Let us see things as God sees them that we might strive to be pleasing in His sight.
