National Honor Society Banquet Held New, Graduating Members Recognized

On May 26, Blanco High School held the annual National Honor Society Banquet. The banquet serves to honor the departing Senior members, the officers for the 2011-2012 school year, and the sophomore and junior inductees.

The National Honor Society is a student program designed to distinguish outstanding students in academics, and to commend their dedication to scholarship, service, leadership, and character. At the Blanco High School charter, possible candidates are required to have a GPA above a 90.0/100.0, and be in good standing regarding discipline. Members are required to allocate a minimum of 10 hours each semester to community service, such as the Blanco Trash-off and Relay for Life. Blanco High School and the City of Blanco are proud to be represented by these outstanding young scholars.

This year’s graduating senior members of the National Honor Society are: Chandler Ashley, Ecce Bradfute, Hillary Calzoncit, Charles Childress, Mindy Dechert, Maggie Dennis, Payton Duvall, Callie Faurie, Taylor Hartmann, Alicia Immel, Briar Koehl, Kylie Leachman, Travis McClinton, Sidney Oliver, Joseph Romero, Chelsea San Miguel, Allen Strandtman, William Stults, Kaitlyn Walla, Grant Weaver, Lauren Winn, and Rachel York.

The NHS officers for the 2011-2012 school year will be: President - Kellam Nabers, Vice President - Alex Gustafson, Treasurer - Presley Savarino, and Secretary - Micaela Klein.

This year saw the induction of 27 additional members, from the sophomore and junior classes: Annie Albrecht, Edward Alvarado, Alina Aly, Zach Barnes, Chris Barnett, Katelyn Bradfute, Megan Brown, Echoe Burkhart, Colton Childress, Callie Culton, Joanna Delevan, Quinn Dillard, Rebecca Dowlearn, Mariana Gonzalez, Jacob Hallenberger, Tyler Hardin, Sam Isenberg, John Itz, Eleanor Kirkscey, Paxston Koehl, Alex Leblanc, Leslie McClinton, Katy Petri, Ian Ray, Kelsey Schwind, Jurnee Troublefield, and Brooke York.

Lastly, the National Honor Society honored the members who went above and beyond the required service hours by serving at least 15 hours per semester through community service. The honored members are: (with number of hours, both semesters combined)

Maggie Dennis – 30.0, Taylor Hartmann – 32.0, Tate Baker – 33.75, Rachel York 34.25, Mindy Dechert – 36.0, Tyler Noah – 36.0, Callie Faurie – 39.5, Joseph Romero - 40.50, Allen Strandtman - 40.50, Braxton Guinn – 41.5, Samantha Primeaux – 42.0, Chandler Ashley – 43.25, Grant Weaver – 43.25, Travis McClinton – 43.75, Chelsea San Miguel – 44.5, Kylie Leachman – 47.5, Maegan Wilson – 52.0, Grady Childress – 52.5, Natalie Stahmann – 55.0, Susannah Campbell – 60.0, Payton Duvall – 62.5, Presley Savarino – 65.0, Briar Koehl – 65.5, Alicia Immel – 78.0, and Micaela Klein – 132.0.
