Cemetery Association Reports Progress
Wednesday, June 8, 2011 • Posted June 9, 2011

At the May 16 Blanco Historic Cemetery Association annual meeting some issues were addressed and reported in the newspaper, some of which have since been resolved in a positive manner.

The May 18 edition of The Blanco County News, reporting on that meeting’s proceedings, stated that $16,000 in cemetery funds were allegedly unaccounted for. Shortly after the article was published, solid evidence was forthcoming indicating that there had been no wrong doing on the part of past cemetery directors. That evidence is in the form of minutes of a February 2005 meeting, an invoice for approved cemetery projects, and withdrawal documents from a cemetery certificate of deposit verifying the use of those funds to pay for the previously approved projects and for operating costs. Any resultant distress on the part of those who rendered good faith service to the cemetery is deeply regretted.

On Saturday, June 4, the directors of the Blanco Historic Cemetery Association held their regular monthly meeting. The meeting was held in the little cemetery building on the cemetery grounds and was open to the public as directed by the Association membership.

The Directors elected the following officers: Gail McClellan, president; Diane Hostetler, vice-president; Dennis Moore, treasurer; Connie Russell, secretary; Rebecca Howerton, grounds maintenance and special projects. The directors accepted the resignation of David Seymour who had provided valuable service to the Association during his term.

Reports of recent activities were presented by the various directors. Minutes were read and approved, expenditures were validated, an update on the progress of the Cemetery Constitution and Bylaws project was provided, and the status of un-resolved issues was discussed.

One such issue was a letter of demand that was submitted by a member of the Cemetery Association who had been unable to obtain certificates for burial plots that had been purchased. Receipts of payment matching the certificates in question as well as other verification has resolved the situation to the satisfaction of all parties concerned.

The next scheduled directors monthly meeting will take place on July 2 at 10 a.m. at the cemetery building. Association members are welcome to attend.
