Fifth Graders Make Annual Trek to Corpus
Wednesday, June 8, 2011 • Posted June 9, 2011

The fifth graders of Blanco Elementary had a great time on their annual trip to Corpus Christi/Port Aransas. The students seemed to have lots of fun on what is one of the best educational field trips taken at Blanco ISD.

Some of the highlights included the boat ride into the Intracoastal Canal, where the crew dragged the fishing net and the students got to see different types of marine life. The students were even able to touch and handle some of the animals.

The students also enjoyed the Texas State Aquarium. Some quotes from the students include, “It was an awesome trip!,” “We got to see a shark being caught at the beach!,” “This is my first ever trip to the coast-what an amazing place!,” “I want to live here!”

The trip would not have been possible if it were not for the generous support of the entire Blanco community, from local businesses, school administration, school board, the PTO, and the dedication of wonderful, helpful parents.

Generous donations and support came from the Blanco PTO, Angie Smith, Butch and Linda Crofts, Dr. John Weaver, Gary and Jimmie Savage, the Kunkel family, Blanco National Bank, Cattleman’s National Bank, and Lowe’s Foods (Super S), along with the chaperones who worked tirelessly on the trip.

There is an incredible amount of planning that goes into the trip each year, and Ms. Melinda Couey and Mr. Mike McClure spend countless hours working on making this trip possible and successful. Kudos to the two of them!
