The past couple weeks have been taken up with the Lavender Festival, but now we’ve put away our purple until next year and can just enjoy the lavender when it blooms, which will be after it rains........The festival really was a lot of fun - the music was awesome (this displaced West Virginia girl actually got to hear some bluegrass, which made her VERY happy), the food was good, the beer was cold, the Lavender Lizzies were a hit once more, and the vendors couldn’t have been more amenable. All the volunteers who turned out were greatly appreciated, especially, as far as I am concerned, the parking guys (Carwash, Popeye, and the rest of the crew), the trash collectors, and all the people who stood in the sun. It was sweltering - ask the EMS about their grill - rumor has it that the tires were in the process of melting!
That was the good part of the weekend. The sad part of our weekend was the loss of Roger Barber of the Redbud Cafe, a well-recognized figure in Blanco for several years. He was like Charles, our editor - he walked EVERYWHERE, and at a good clip too. A journalist, a gentle soul, and an all-around good guy. We will miss him, and our condolences go out to his family.
They also go out to our dear Mr. Bill Wood and his family in the loss of his wife and to the family of Cole Letteney as well.
Just give your loved ones an extra hug today - life is so short and things often happen so unexpectedly.
