Dear Editor,

There is a continued wonderment as to why there are signs coming in to Blanco that call for a certain speed limit. No one seems to pay any attention to them, be they coming from the north or south.

I pulled out of the Super S parking lot a few days ago and a fancy car shot past me, I guessed at 65 mph, crossing the 35 mph sign and the south bridge, then slammed on the brakes and whipped in to El Charro’s. I also pulled in and found the person standing at the counter. I told him, “You better slow down coming through Blanco.” He laughed and said, “These hillbillies are so stupid around here they couldn’t read a radar gun if the had one.” He was an insurance salesman who blows through Blanco 3-4 times a week.

I left Express Care this morning going home. A pickup came over the hill and charged up to my bumper. I was driving 45 mph. When I hit the 40 mph sign the pickup blew past going south, out of sight by the time I got to 13th Street.

I don’t mind being called a hillbilly, but being called stupid is a whole other issue. The whole town is being made fun of. It may be that I am a fool by even saying something. It is said “it is better to be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and leave no doubt.” Likewise, the speed limit signs are also stating an issue of control and are thought a fool because no one pays much attention to them. Either enforce the speed limit consistently or take them down.

What say you?
