Barn Fire a Total Loss
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 • Posted July 21, 2011

Twenty-two firefighters from Spring Branch, Bulverde, Blanco, and Canyon Lake fire departments responded to a barn fire on Phillip Drive, just south of Stallion Estates and in the very southern tip of Blanco County.

The fire, which occurred last Thursday, was “big, hot, and fast,” according to Blanco fire chief David Hotz. The barn was used for furniture refinishing and the chemicals made the task difficult.

Nothing was salvageable, including a boat that had been stored in the barn, reported Hotz. The fire took an hour to control and spawned a grass fire that also had to be extinguished.

Bulverde-Spring Branch EMS and Blanco EMS took shifts helping keep the firefighters cool. No injuries were reported; some of the firefighters had to be treated for the heat, but all returned to duty after the fire was contained and mopped up.

While Blanco firefighters were fighting that blaze, Johnson City dispatched a truck to cover the Blanco area.
